Jeff discusses the ancient question of whether or not there is free will. Rather than giving us a straight answer he looks at the question itself, and our seeking of answers; how the mind is always looking for solutions and neat philosophies. Perhaps we don't really want the answers, because all answers are second-hand and do not satisfy the heart. Perhaps we just love to wonder, to be curious, to explore, like children. Jeff invites us closer to the beautiful uncertainty at the heart of our lives, and to a deep embrace of the paradox of existence.

"The only reason we want to be there is so that we can be here". Wow. That is so true! Love your talks, Jeff. So illuminating.

Brilliant talk! Loved the insights about seeing the desire as an external step, as a safe place where we will be in, instead something that comes from ourselves. Our minds move away so often from the present... it feels nice to stop and try to see home where it is, just inside of us, not on the next goal that our mind pictures. Thank you :)

Great talk! I feel like it's just too much to think of all that can be or not be, and that I am constantly waiting to get there in order to see whether something happened or not. This sometimes makes me unable to enjoy the moment and live in a sort of a vacuum. It's as if I can only enjoy something that ended well, so after the fact. It's only after the party when everyone is gone, and the house is clean again that I can sit and really enjoy the party... We only want to be there to be here... It's just resonates with me so much! Thanks for the talk, looking forward to more :)

Life is so fast today. We indeed tend to not realise any more that we are driven by so many goals - the next one, the next one.. . But it's somehow the tragedy of the human nature to always think to feel home somewhere else. For this meditation is a good tool to maybe become more aware that home can be here, and not there. Thx for these good talks!

Thank you! I still have an issue/a question. As a procrastinator, it is hard to practice acceptance and giving up this "goal pursue". As a procrastinator, I am actually trying to activate myself, to start the project, to be on time, to put my ideas in practice. So, how can I practice acceptance and letting go, but also ..... do things? Any thoughts on this are appreciated :) Namaste.

Thanks Ana. That's a great question. To be in the present moment, but to also 'do things'. Yes, it's a wonderful paradox. It's all about where you focus, put your attention. Sometimes, when we have a project to do, or a big list of things that have to be done, we can start to procrastinate, avoid, put off doing things. It all feels too overwhelming, like we don't know where to begin. It feels like too much work, too big. We'd rather avoid. It's because the mind focusses so much on the destination, where we have to 'get to'. And sometimes the destination can seem so far away. It's like we know we have to go on a journey of 20,000 steps. And sometimes it just seems like.... oh my, that is so many steps for poor little me! The truth is, there is only ONE step. The next step. The next moment. You never have to do a hundred things. Only the next thing. That's all there ever is. You only ever have to do ONE thing, actually. That takes a lot of the pressure off. You just have to begin from where you are. Don't focus on what you haven't done yet. Or all the things you have to do. Focus on what you can do right now, even if it seems like a little thing. That is acceptance. Acceptance of where you are now. Feel your feet on the ground, the breath moving in and out of your body. Life accepts you exactly where you are. It's a new beginning. From this grounded place, you can make a plan, or do a task. It doesn't matter that you 'haven't started yet'. The present moment is the PERFECT place to begin. In fact, that's all life really is - a beginning. There is ALWAYS a new moment to begin. You don't have to wait until you feel 'ready'. Maybe you will never feel 'ready'. Allow yourself to feel un-ready. Allow yourself to feel fear, or doubt, or any feeling that comes up. Feel your feelings. And allow any thought, however negative. They are just thoughts. Thoughts are allowed in the present moment too. And just take the next step. A small step. Life is made of small steps. Don't label yourself a procrastinator. ;) When you procrastinate, you're a procrastinator. When you don't, you're not. The word cannot define you. No word can. You are alive. With love Jeff ;)
