Thank you Indra Mohan and Ekhart Yoga for most wonderful gift and surprise. So grateful to have opportunity to listen to this beautiful lady with her bounty of mindful, generous wisdom. Love, gratitude and blessings

This was such an enlightening talk...we move so that we can sit....the ultimate goal of yoga. THANK YOU for sharing this! In terms of asana practice, and the different stages of life, I have hoped that one day we will have an elder teaching a class. By now, I have learned to modify (as you always suggest, Esther:) the postures when needed, which is fine, but it would be oh so nice to experience a class with someone who knows the nuances of an older body. I realize that, just as the overwhelming majority of practitioners are women, the overwhelming majority of those women are younger...but I'm sure there are more than a few of us oldsters who are Ekhart Yoga devotees! Again, thank you so much for this very special December surprise. With love, Trisha

I did! I am looking for a wonderful female teacher who knows the nuances of having an older body who still wants to teach. Any recommendations.. let them email me esther@ekhartyoga.com !!
Indra and A.G.04.01.2016
What a good idea to offer classes with the nuances of an older body.. Hope that Esther picks that one up!

Special classes for more older women would be great. I have many 50-60-70 plus students, so i call my class easy yoga, to make clear everybody can join. In the end it is all about the mind indeed, so my classes always end with meditation. I am also interested in the meno pause suggestions, some students have problems with it and share experiences. Online info at Ekhart will be great, thanks!
Christine31.12.2015
Trisha I find what you say very interesting I am a 48 yr old teacher and a lot of my students are older women I think there is great interest in yoga within the elder community , I have lost a lot of ladies to my 'to strenuous' practice though I know they certainly want to move . So I can relate to your comment. Thank you

Thanks, Indra! You really hit the mark in the last 5 minutes of this talk, when you discussed the asanas with respect to the ultimate goal of yoga, which is to calm the mind. Also the fact that yoga is not at all competitive. It is completely opposite to what our culture rewards, which is performance oriented. So the difficulty is to let go of the desire to perform and achieve. Once we do that, it is no longer important to perform an asana. We can leave performance and achievement for the gymnasts and acrobats!
Indra and A.G.04.01.2016
That is such a great reminder!!
Ramani02.01.2016
Thank you for this insightful talk underlining the real objective of yoga - moving so that we can eventually sit and meditate. Enjoyed it so much. The last 5 minutes were indeed the best. Agree with Trisha and Christine. Would Indraji teach a class for those getting on in years at Ekhart Yoga, please?
Gail30.12.2015
This was lovely. Such a gentle and very calm woman. I agree with Trisha, that an older woman teaching would be most helpful. Thank you for this interview. Blessings Gail

Wow - such a beautiful gift to all of us! It is wonderful to be reminded that yoga is breath and sitting in peace is the ultimate goal.
Melinda02.01.2016
I enjoyed this. 'Any chance we can hear more from her about going into, through and beyond menopause? Namaste.
Indra and A.G.04.01.2016
Dear Melinda, You can hear more from her when she is visiting Amsterdam on May 15, 2016. She will teach a workshop. I am a student of Indra Mohan and I manage her and her husbands trainings in and around the Netherlands, also this one. Warm regards, Anneke Sips
Christine31.12.2015
Thank you ekhart yoga for providing a platform for this knowledge. It is so easy to dismiss and resent that we as women need to take on another out look, It is lovely to hear this beautifully calm and present lady speak. Thank you
Trisha31.12.2015
To Christine and Gail, thanks for the support. And to Christine, truly, thanks for checking me on my assumptions!! I'm happy to know that the elders in your community have a great interest in yoga. I am certain that you are an open and compassionate yoga teacher! Al the best!
Sarah30.12.2015
This is priceless. Thank you so much!
Lorna30.12.2015
Lovely talk; very enlightening. Such wisdom. Thank you.

Wait.. Avoid food that is spicy? Besides the possibility of heartburn, I don't see how spicy is bad for a pregnant woman. That is misinformation.
caterina28.01.2016
As Dona said its just a general guideline (Indra doesn't say its bad, its just an advice) but it goes along with the idea that spicy foods are heat generating and therefore are not ideal to keep a calm mind.
Dona25.01.2016
I think it's more about taking precautions since every body is different. The effects of spicy food (diarrhea, heartburn) cause stress on the body therefore stressing the baby. It probably doesn't apply so much for women who regularly eat spicy food as their bodies are more assimilated to it. :-)
Alena21.04.2016
Very informative! I noticed the suggestion of a teacher who is knowledgeable in the "older" body. :) I have practiced for more than twenty-five years, have had my babies, and now am perimenopausal. My body definitely has undergone physical changes as I've gotten older. While I am still strong and can get into some more advanced poses, there are others my body definitely doesn't care for anymore, and probably some that just don't benefit me while others would benefit an older body even more. It would be lovely to have a specific set of classes for those of us who are older (post child bearing age). As always, I am so grateful for Ekhart Yoga. xo
Donna03.01.2016
So insightful and interesting. I will remember and pass on these words of wisdom. Thank you x
Noemi31.12.2015
Wonderful. And her peaceful demeanour makes this beautiful talk very relaxing to listen to.
Kristin30.12.2015
I appreciate her gentle observations on the gender differences, and the encouragement to be where I am as a pregnant mother. These are freeing thoughts in a world that pushes competition and winning.
Indra and A.G.04.01.2016
Hello Kristin, Thank you for your comment! I totally agree with you, these are freeing thoughts... This is (should be) what yoga is all about, right? Free our minds.. I am replying as a student of Indra Mohan and I manage her and her husbands training in and around the Netherlands. Warm regards, Anneke
Sacha15.01.2016
Thank you for this. I am reading Yoni Shakti by Uma Dinsmore Tuli and this insightful video reflects so much of what I I am learning about women's yoga practice. I I would really welcome more women specific videos and shakti instruction. Thank you. Esther and all the team, finding this site has been such a valuable, joyful experience. It's helping me grow as a person so much, beyond just asanas.
Mary30.12.2015
Thank you, this was a lovely talk. Really appreciate the wisdom.
Kristina11.05.2016
Appreciation is what comes to my mind at first after having watched this video. Very gentle and calming words indeed. Thank you.
Sarah15.04.2016
I appreciate how she makes clear that all the differences lie in the physiology - as far as the mind concerns, there really is no gender. Yes, indeed. Thank you for this talk!

About giving birth with yoga and breathing... I gave birth to my second child with yoga mouvements and breathing. It was simply great ! I was lucky enough to be living in NL and I could give birth at home. I could really absorb the pain from contractions with simple yoga mouvements of the hips and breathing and at the same time this helped to speed up the process. It was a great experience !!
