So nice,Irina Thank you
Selva16.01.2016
Thank you for this class. I am going through a bit transformation at the moment (I have given birth to my first child), so I really appreciate the opportunity to go deeper into this change. I would have loved to have more guidance in the asana, not technically, but on the transformational aspects. Where the mudra or asana supports that process or where it is a metaphor for an aspect - be it endurance, patience or opening. <3
Irina16.01.2016
Thanks for sharing, Selva! It's a powerful transition, new motherhood. May you enjoy the process and continue to grow. Lots of love for you and your newborn! Also, thanks for the suggestion. Will keep that in mind for future classes. xx

Beautiful class! I felt connected the entire time. I watched you first when you explained "chicken pose" as I had never done it before or seen it and thought I'd try it out even though I was not confident I could do it. Imagine my surprise and joy when I easily came into the pose. I really believe headstand will be in my future! Thanks Irina~
Irina02.07.2015
Jai! So happy to hear this! And yes, headstand is in your future. :-) xx

Thank you Irina for this great class. I'm feeling very quiet. Thanks to all the programs here on Ekhart Yoga I see changes and tonight on a physical level, I felt the difference in my legs (I'm usually VERY unconfortable with the pose where we put one knee down and go back up in lounge); My legs are really happy tonight and they needed that. I had never done the breathing we did at the end (alternate nose and mouth) I felt it gave space in my stomach. Could you tell me the name of the mudra we did during this breathing practice please? And is there a meaning to it? Thank you and Namaste
Jocelyne23.10.2015
Thank you so much for your answer Irina. Love the name your teacher gave too! It was so perfect timing. Thank you.
Irina23.10.2015
Hi Jocelyne, Happy to hear the class left you feeling quiet - and that you found ease in the lunge! Good question about the breathing technique... it's a combination of a mudra and pranayama that was called 'fearless breath of love' by one of my teachers. I must say I love that name... I don't know if there even is a Sanskrit name for this one - if anyone knows, I'd love to hear from you! The combination of the mudra and pranayama is said to calm the mind, which helps us to find the strength & courage needed to look within with loving kindness, so we can see what our path is and fearlessly go where we need to go. xx

Beautiful, Irina. I love taking yoga beyond the asana, using the poses as a tool. In this case, for transformation. This class is lovely.
Helen06.06.2015
I don't think I understand kapalabati breathing. I tried it but ran out of breath. I don't understand how you were able to do this for so long or so smoothly. P.s. I have done this in yoga classes before always with the same result. This is not the first time I tried it but I just don't "get" it!
Irina09.06.2015
Thanks for your comment, Helen! Kapalabhati can be a tricky pranayama, I know. The most helpful thing to do is to take it easy. Place your warm hands on your lower belly, just below the navel. Totally relax your belly, let your belly become soft. Notice how your belly automatically starts to move forward with every inhalation and draws in with every exhalation. Just be aware of this movement. This is the first step and you can stay here and practice breathing like this for as long as you'd like. The next step is to inhale deeply and then exhale completely. Now, invite a medium sip of air into your lungs. You're not inhaling fully but it's not a tiny inhale either. Don't overthink this though. ;-) Now, pull in your belly powerfully and exhale. It's a bit like sneezing, where you automatically pull in your belly and exhale because of that. Just as with sneezing, don't think too much about what you're doing here. Relax the belly again after your exhale and you'll notice that an inhalation comes all by itself. Repeat the strong exhale by pulling in your belly. Relax again, inhale automatically. Once this is going really well, start to do this more quickly: short inhalation, strong exhalation, short inhalation, strong exhalation - and so on. The focus is really on the exhalation, the inhale happens all by itself. Most important part is to breathe in your belly. This also means that you'll relax the belly after every exhale. Hope this helps! Keep breathing! :-) xx

Beautiful practice Irina. We will all become butterflies!
Laurie17.12.2015
Wow - just read your explanation of how to do belly breathing and went much better than in class - will do again with that explanation and practice the belly breathing on it's own! Love the notion of transformation and the butterfly - loved it! One wish: that the actual practice be longer - maybe repeat things twice - warm up great but wanted more of everything! Thanks for such spiritual growth!
Irina07.01.2016
Thanks so much for your kind words, Laurie! xx
Laurie04.06.2015
I really liked the practice and the notion of transformation - you have much knowledge - Thank-you

Beautiful class Irina. I was not feeling myself when I began, but now I feel lightness and peace. Thank you.
Elizabeth20.01.2016
Hi Irina - thank you, I loved the thoughts that you shared in the introduction which I held on to throughout the practice. Loved the end, blossoming lotus - never met that asana before and it felt so good. One question regarding Khapalabhati. I have been practising yoga for some years and often use khapalabhati - the problem is that on the exhale I find my throat catches and I end up making what I can only describe as a 'snorting' noise. A bit embarrassing in class! Any suggestions? Love and light to you.
Irina21.01.2016
Hi Elizabeth, Thanks for you kind words and question! It sounds as if you're overdoing the exhale and inhale during khapalabhati. If you scroll up a little bit on this page and read my response to Helen's comment, you could practice it in a slower and gentler manner. If the sound is still there when you practice this way, you could let me or one of you teachers in class know - but I think if you start to practice slowly and with ease, the sound will stop. Love!

Your classes are a joy! Thank you, Irina. :)
Adam03.01.2016
I have been doing your classes regularly and finally feel I am getting and benefiting from the kapalabati breathing. The explanation to Helen is further helpful. I also appreciate how you run through moving through the various postures with the in and the out breath. After years of yoga that feels to be finally sinking in too. My tendency is to forget about the breath. No breath = no yoga as I think one of the other teachers on the site says. You clearly have a lot of knowledge and experience in mantras and mudras too which is wonderful. My main challenge with yoga is getting backache as even after many years I am still rather inflexible in the hamstrings and hips and can loose mindfulness and take pressure bending in the back. Any suggestions or class recommendations around that welcome. Thank you again Irina.
Irina07.01.2016
So good to read your comment, Adam! Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your experience. Happy to hear kapalabhati is going well now and that your breath is present! Indeed, no breath, no yoga... As for your question - I have quite a few hip opening classes here on Ekhart, especially some of the for women and restorative classes. I know, the for women classes might feel a little bit weird, but you might enjoy them as they help to open up in a gentle way. Other than that, I'm working on a class with a hip / back / hamstring focus. Coming up in a little while. Love, Irina
