The Universe exists in vibration. This fact of science gives the Yogi information that all things in the universe, including our bodies, thoughts and energies are also vibration and can thus be manipulated. This short lecture brings up the concepts and questions of how we use body awareness to explore the roots of our actions and looking deeper to see how the roots of our thoughts affect the world we live in. When we can find ways to positively create vibrations in the world, we are surrounded by them. If we surround ourselves with ‘negative’ vibrations then are surrounded by them too! With clear and conscious thought and especially using Mantra chanting as a way to harmonize our vibrations with the divine, we find ourselves surrounded by divine energy more and more.

How do I get the answers to all the things in my life that I do not understand, and cannot figure out how to deal with in a better way than I do right now. The trick i guess, is to ask the questions. So, without having a clue as for what the answer might be, my question was this; how do I get out of the thought patterns that are so emotionally draining right now? And then, I find myself here, listening to this, again, being reminded that the universe has big ears. Hopefully big enough to hear me, too, among all the other sounds and vibrations. Boy, did I need this reminder, even if I already know all this to be true. Be careful what you wish for.... they say. I know that only what is truly and completely in my heart can, and will, come true. They (who ever they are...) also say that if you think "God" is not answering your prayers, it is God saying no. I am not sure God is to blame for what prayers are answered yes or no, I think the determining factor is the strength of my own conviction and courage to wish or ask for, even realize, what I really want. Either way, I get what I send out and my reality is created in my mind. Right now, my mind needed a little reminder about just that.

David, thank you for this spacious teaching; also thank you, Anne, for your questions and reflections. The reminder I especially appreciate in the video is "stay connected to your heart"...a wise and insightful blessing for the new year. Best wishes for 2016.

What we send out we do get back, in every way. In my experience it doesn't always have to be and action. Sometimes setting an intention as to how I would like to be, to be perceived or what sort of effect I wish to create in the world around me is enough, and then I can take it from there. What I wish to experience somehow materializes in my reality. Little things, big things. Like just now, when shopping, which I don't like, I came across a brand new tea shop selling my favorite teas which I can't find in my home town. Lucky me for being out of town.... Allowing the wonderful shop girl to talk about her passion, enjoying her expertise, finding wonderful products AND getting an extra box of tea as a present, like she said for no reason, just because she felt like giving it to me. And all it took was a big sense of YESS! when I enterd the shop. In my experience the things you talk about concerning us in our personal daily lives, like stop complaining, being grateful, acting according to our true nature is very much behavioral patterns that can and will come up and manifest through the practice of yoga. Simply because this IS our true nature. This is how we are born. If we add our heart and soul into our yoga practice, on top of the physical work, if we decide to let the ideas, the philosophy, the body mind connection enter our consciousness things will start to happen. The effect of everything that has formed us into something we are not might somehow be peeled away. I know it has for me. Not completely, but certainly enough for me to notice. If we stay true to ourselves, our nature we become better people (for lack of a better phrase) Better for ourselves and better for everybody else. And the best part is, everybody else seem to be so much easier to be around. Unimportant details remain just that. But don't take my word for it, try it for yourself. And David, don't give up on those cookies.

I am new to Ekhart Yoga membership. I love how you explain this beautiful vibration of the universe. I saw a video once of the vibration of many of our planets and they do have their own individual music! I have just discovered the Moola mantra and love to sing it in my car. It helps distress me and makes my whole day go more smoothly. Great talk David! Thank you and Namaste :)

I hold onto your words with desperation, because my world has become so negative, or should I say: I have become so negative. You speak truth. I invite my brain to absorb it. It's so interesting--God said, "Let there be light," explains that the world is made of sound--God's voice. In my studies of physics, string theory says that all things are made of sound. Also you talk in both your classes and talks about silent observation. Silent in talk and mind. I see this as the practice of non-judgement, but also in physics it is said that if a particle is observed, it changes state. You always say to invite you your body to do this or that. To observe your body. In some ways I see this observation as prayer. If people are all paying attention to something, it changes state. But also, if you chant, something else may be invited to change your own state. It is truth, but I am having trouble applying it to my own life, to take all these whirling negative thoughts out of my brain. All I want now is to be centered and find peace. The Chinese say that the greatest thing a man can aspire to is to be a humble shop owner. I don't want anything but this peace (without hurting my dogs and cats.) How can I apply these principles other than practicing yoga and meditating? Must I just be patient? Thank you for being someone that I can understand.
David06.01.2015
Hello Michelle, I'm happy to see this talk has inspired some vibrations of thought and feeling... that is the intention. More and more, I find that our environments (inner & outer) effect everything and like a gardener pulling the weeds to get the flowers to blossom, it takes constant effort and yes, LOTS of patience. And also the understanding that the 'weeds' (negative thoughts) have very deep roots from life's conditioning and along with patience, comes intention and consistent effort to become a humble shop owner! There are so many other influences trying to get us to achieve more... so keep with your practices, be patience and plant seeds of positive intention.

Hi Michele. In my experience change will happen if we want it. By thinking about it, realising we need to make changes in our lives, no matter what kind, being aware of it we have already opended our mind to it. The first and most important step is already made. It will probably not happen with a big bang or over night, but where there is a will, there is a way. I am not a scientist or a physicist or anything remotely so, but what I have read along those lines only confirms what the "hippies and yogis" have been saying all along. Also, taking a step back, being an observer rather than one that constantly participates in everything happening around is something that I find very destressing. It also frees up a lot of "brain capacity" to deal with things differently from before. For me the biggest shift happened, gradually, when I moved more of my awarenss away from my mind and down to my heart and gut, putting my intuition to work, some would say. But thats just my experience :-)

Patricia09.05.2020
Hi David, sometimes I rewatch this talk and always find a new point to reflect about! I have one question: when we chant a mantra without knowing the meaning, do his words influence us anyway? Many thanks!
David10.05.2020
Hello Patricia, I am glad to know you come back to this video! It is a few years old so I guess I should revisit from time to time as well. About your question.... my standard answer to everything: It Depends! I believe there are frequencies of thoughts that have an impact. So in some way, the vibration of the thought (or intention) has an impact, making the answer YES. Even without knowing what you are saying / singing, the intention can influence. Have you tried singing things where you do understand? For example, I have a video of Ho'Oponopono on the site here that has english text. And also this one which has english as well: https://www.ekhartyoga.com/classes/777/transforming-tension-meditation See how those 'feel' when you understand the words.... and know that melody also plays a part.
