Samavrtti literally means "same waves" and with this practice you balance out your inhalations and exhalations. Balancing out the breath helps to create equanimity of mind and energy, it focuses the attention and awareness of the breath.

Part of the Ten days of Pranayama program and the 'Eight Limbs of Yoga' Program

Samavrtti Pranayama can be used to increase energy or calm it down. @Kahrina: so glad you are enjoying Pranayama (seemingly as much as I do;) I think the sequence you set up is perfect. Yin before a Vinyasa class would be a great combination. Samavrtti Pranayama can be done either at the start or at the end of a practice. Just see and experience what works best for you.

Thank you. I found the exhale much easier than the inhale and longer in length.

Keeping the power of the breath even was challenging. Will keep trying!

This practice triggered lots of yawning for me which interrupts the flow but, thanks for the teaching! Namaste.

yummy yummy yummy ;) Now for your gratitude class. I have been structuring my mornings starting with this Pranayama course, then a Yin yoga class and then moving into a vinyasa flow class. Would you suggest this OR swap it around? }*{

I didn't understand the breathing technique. So do I inhale and count to 22 on one inhale? And then count to 22 on the exhale?
Sandra15.11.2023
Hi Even, you count until a number that feels right for you. When you start the counting, start with the numbers in the twenties, so 21, 22, 23 etc. Doing so, you will not be not counting too fast (which can happen when you count from 1,2,3 etc) Just find the number hat works best for how long your breath moves in your body without forcing. I hope that clears it up!
