Longer holds and active stretches of major muscle groups in the body. We start with a Yin yoga pose (Caterpillar) to release the lower back and hamstrings and then go through a few ‘waves’ of poses, focusing on the hip flexors and side body. *PROPS - Block, bolster, belt.

Thanks for making the connection regarding healthy muscles need to be able to contract and relax... Same dynamic for the mind. Simple but it reinforced to me that I must keep my practice consistent to keep my mind "healthy". Oh yeah, interesting T-shirt.

I was thinking to myself only yesterday that it has been a David free sone for me lately (no reason to take it personally and it is of course a lot worse for me than for you), and here you are, with just the right tonic! Contracting, releasing, strong, soft, life in a nut shell ... Introducing thai massage to the hip/legs yesterday and now this class this evening, well YUMMY!!!! :-) My legs are now super happy :-) I'm not feeling too bad either :-)

Very very great! Funny thing was, that i was very tired from work and it was already late, but i wanted to do this class before going to bed. So i did and somewhere in the class when we had to do a ground-excercise on the back; i felt a sleep for 5 minutes...... I wake up and went on with the class. Than i realised that i missed a part;-) So i did this missed 5 minutes afterwards, because i don't want to miss a thing of your lessons! Thanx for the insight just to take that stress as feels good....

I loved the explanations of how the muscles worked as we actively stretched - it helped me gain a better understanding of what was happening so that I could ease my further into or out of a certain posture or stretch. Thank you!

Although this is listed as an evening yoga class, I did it in the morning, as 5:30 AM is my yoga time. I'm just out of bed, and stiff, so this was a great class for getting my body moving and ready for the day. Thank you, David.

Hi David. I am not very flexible but always crave these stretchy classes. I find happy baby difficult. Can I ask should my lower leg be vertical? as mine want to spring outwards. If I try to make them more vertical it would hurt my knees. Where should I feel the stretch? Any advice gratefully received. X

Hi Alison, Great that you take the classes that are difficult for your body! The lower leg (shin bones / foot) do not have to be anywhere they do not naturally go. Meaning that you can for sure let it go outwards. Although it is different for everyone, Happy Baby is a big hamstring stretch. And the hamstring will also determine where your lower leg goes in the pose. Happy Baby can also effect the outer hip and lower back as those muscles are pulled as well. So ... advice... SQUAT! You can open the feet as wide as you need and put something under your heels to balance. Stay as long as you can and do it several times a day... it is essentially happy baby with your feet on the ground

I don't know how it happened but I thought the stretching postures would stress me up. On the contrary they relaxed me and in the end I felt rested and energized and my mind still. Thank you for the class and the anatomy references which I always benefit from.

Hi David, My yoga practice has slipped over the past number of years and I'm now just getting back to doing more yoga on a regular basis. I thought the 30 day challenge would be a help. It is!
