very good class by itself and usefull to build a full practice adding backbends or corework for exemple... thank you to remind that working the foot is really important
MacKenzie12.02.2016
Fremeaux, Yes! the feet are the foundations of many of the yoga postures and so important. Thank you!!
Anne Berit15.01.2016
I am not sure I can step off the mat a brand new person, but I certainly have a pair of new(ish) legs :-) A very interesting class and as I have realized I do have some leg issues I will repeat this. I have done the toe stretch a couple of times and it really gets easier quite quickly, which is good or I probably would have founds lots of good reasons not to do them! As for ankles sickling out, I use my strap to hold them in position and find that it helps a lot when I can take focus away from the alignment of the ankles. As for stored emotions, I challenge anyone who claim they never feel angry to try some leg work .... :-) I find that difficult emotions are no better stored in the body than (wrongfully) thrown around. Released with awareness, though, only good comes from getting them out. Good riddance to bad rubbish, I say!
MacKenzie19.01.2016
Anne, I also can create many excuses to avoid intense toe stretch because of the intensity... it's why it has shown up on my classes more frequently. What I teach is what I'm struggling with too. I couldn't agree with you more - "I find that difficult emotions are no better stored in the body than (wrongfully) thrown around." AMEN! :) Thank you for always adding smiles to me days.
Thuy20.01.2016
Hi MacKenzie, I smile with your answer and encourage me. My emotion move on. See you on mat. Namaste.
Thuy15.01.2016
Hi Mac, I am thankful to you for all nice classes. You really inspire me. How can you get energy like that? I feel it so much from you. I have practiced yoga for some year and I want to be a real yoga teacher. I know it's not easy for me because I feel I get stuck many things. I don't have a strong, steady breath include my sitting position. I do Ujjayi breath also but I never feel that happen to me. My inner thigh doesn't work well in standing poses, chanturanga... I also feel tension in Savasana. I ask myself why I am on mat, do yoga? Some time I also feel boring on mat. I think you have many experience with yoga. Thank you so much for sharing.
MacKenzie19.01.2016
Thuy, The fact that you are asking these questions shows you are on the right path. The more questions you ask, the more you explore, the more conscious you become. Let go of your self-judgement. We've all been there. Sending you lots of love on your journey. I promise you're exactly where you need to be.
Caroline15.01.2016
Thanks MacKenzie. I feel very relaxed now. Adding to my favourites. Cheers!
MacKenzie19.01.2016
Glad you left your mat feeling relaxed. Thank you for taking class!!

Yay, it's MacKenzie day! Thank you, as always, for your beautiful practice. I loved the space you created between the poses and the intermittent downward dogs felt great! Better than a glass of wine to start the weekend :) x love x

Sabine15.01.2016
Thanks for this class! I felt the calfs strechtes very useful!
MacKenzie19.01.2016
Sabine, Calf stretches are so important! I notice a huge difference in my ability to fold forward when my calves are open. :) Thank you for taking class.
CatherineH15.01.2016
Got to some unvisited places so will return to investigate again. Good thorough stretches and feel more open at end of class. Thank you
MacKenzie19.01.2016
Catherine, Great to feel and explore unvisited places. Definitely come back and visit again.

Thank you MacKenzie, this was delicous for my hips and legs! Namaste
MacKenzie19.01.2016
Andrea, Delicious is the exact word I love this class to be described as. Thank you. Namaste.
Jocelyne06.03.2016
Third time around...My body really loves this practice! I've been practicing the toes stretch regularly too and I never thought I could but yes, I am enjoying it now mostly because I feel the good it does to my feet and I love keeping my feet happy ;-) And I really like what this class does to my lower body. So thank you again MacKenzie for putting this sequence together. Namaste
MacKenzie06.03.2016
Jocelyne, That's great! It makes me so happy to hear that repeatedly this class feels good in your body. Keep showing your lower body love. Namaste.
Jocelyne27.01.2016
Thank you Mackenzie.A wonderful lower body work. It feels really good; It is nice to feel this new space and the lightness. Exactly what I needed! Smile on my face...and inside my body! Namaste
MacKenzie12.02.2016
Jocelyne, Thank YOU for taking class. You can't really beat a smile on your face and inside your body!! :) Namaste.
Christine03.02.2016
Dear MacKenzie, thanks for the great toe stretches, I really enjoyed that (NOT sarcasm!). I just wondered if it is helpful to just go into hanumanasana or half hanumanasana unprepared, and by that I mean not warmed up first?
MacKenzie12.02.2016
Christine, It is always important to listen to your body. If you need more time and more warmup before hanumanasana please do. I have experienced in my own practice where I create mental blocks that I need poses x, y, and z in order to do _____. I had to do a lot of work to release those mental patterns. This class was created to challenge the mind and be present in the body - safely of course.
Angie25.05.2018
This is one of my favorite classes. Thank you, thank you, thank you MacKenzie! <3 I started doing this class a few months ago. I had a lot of issues after a foot surgery. Especially with one knee. I tried a lot of things in the last years to help my foot and my knee. And as unbelievably as it seems, this simple class has done the trick :) My foot and my knee are so much better. I can go hiking again. I am so thankful for finding this little gem in the depths of this site. Lots of love to you, dear MacKenzie! Namaste
Christine W15.01.2016
Hey MacKenzie! Excellent class.....thank you so much as always. I am sashaying from room to room getting ready for work! Hips, pelvis, hamstrings, and leg muscles feel wonderful. Loved the calf stretches. A self inquiry over the past year taught me that strong open calves are very important when working on balance..... All my love, Christine
MacKenzie19.01.2016
Christine, The visual of you sashaying around the room put a huge smile on my face. Thank you. Sending you lots of love.
Susan19.01.2016
I love this pace and progression of stretches. Your cues to keep the standing leg straight in balancing brought to my attn. my slightly bent standing knee and made such an improvement in my stretch after that. The twist was so much more delicious because of this strength even thought I opted for the lifted leg to be bent knee variation. I used the wall for my headstand but didn't really need it as I was feeling strong and straight from the practice. Thank you for your insights making this possible for me!
MacKenzie19.01.2016
Susan, It brings me joy knowing that I created the right space for you to explore your practice with greater depth and ease. Congrats. Those moments on the mat always feel great. Thank you! :)
Katrina20.01.2016
Hi Mackenzie, Andy, Christina, Anne and others thanks for your message. Please don't be saddened Mackenzie. Your class and all the comments moved me forward rapidly and I had a really good look at me in movement, me in Yoga...nobody else and now I feel more relaxed, more confidant to do what I can do and to go on stretching myself and look at myself with love and humour, which you do for yourself Mackenzie....I will return to this class and thanks so much for sharing your teaching style with us..its not that healthy to stay stuck with our most compatible teachers all the time and letting you know that I have taken that fantastic calf stretch into daily practice and its really helping with forward bends...I am sorry I chose to look at you as a mirror rather than who you are and who I am...I wonder if many people do that in their classes, I thought I was more grown up than that, but guess deep in us there is always a crumple button and some of Yoga coupled with society pressures about ageing can be (sadly) about the outside image. It is not the case in your teaching: this is my responsibility not yours.. I will be returning to your class, which I know was sweet..just that day sweet was not the way I was seeing myself....love and love and love and thanks for the journey to you for teaching and for all your comments
Anne Berit06.02.2016
Wow, Katrina, this is so great! I get so much from my practice and sometimes I try to tell people about it, but they just don't get it. They see head stands and splits and gymnastics.... Not that this is a big part of MY practice :-) It is the most wonderful feeling to see someone having an experience similar to mine, because I know how great it feels for me and I love it when others can have the same experience. All good things are better when shared, right :-)
Katrina16.01.2016
and Christina thanks for your comment too - very supportive x
Christine W16.01.2016
I've been thinking of you - your honesty brought me to tears. Here here to online friendship, love, support, and caring. Reach out anytime. I practice every day and am in now way shape or form a pretzel yogi. But I love it so......have a great day Katrina. All my love, Christine
MacKenzie19.01.2016
I love witnessing these beautiful online friendships and community.
Katrina16.01.2016
Andy and Anne - thanks for your comments - lots of truth in them - will return to this class and look in a different way ....as you said this is often the most important class, the one that leaves you feeling defeated...had that once before with Davids class and now his classes are my favourite and if it wasn't for your comments Anne I would not have returned to his wonderful offerings which I now see as fun, so yes important step Andy ..have a good day sun is shining here..hurrah!
Anne Berit16.01.2016
I'm usually never lost for words... And I never thought the day would come when I felt like saying Namaste! Two new experiences for me, in one day! Rise and shine Katrina :-)
Andy22.01.2016
Blessings Katrina! I know the value of sunshine living in the Northwest US. I'm glad you feel better :-) Why I Wake Early Hello, sun in my face. Hello, you who made the morning and spread it over the fields and into the faces of the tulips and the nodding morning glories, and into the windows of, even, the miserable and the crotchety – best preacher that ever was, dear star, that just happens to be where you are in the universe to keep us from ever-darkness, to ease us with warm touching, to hold us in the great hands of light – good morning, good morning, good morning. Watch, now, how I start the day in happiness, in kindness.” ― Mary Oliver
Katrina15.01.2016
Hi Mackenzie thought I would let you know, I did not walk of the mat feeling a new person..instead I am stuck on it in a heap, feeling old and inflexible and very defeated, with my aching knees and sickle feet and thin hair! Not sure if this was for all levels but certainly not for me, maybe too challenging..sweet? as you said beg to differ. ... cant get of the mat in a physical and emotional mess...sure its me judging myself against you.was trying so hard not too really trying to listen to what you were saying rather than watch you but something inside me could not cope and made me feel all these classes all these years..and I still cant bend forward and cant reach my leg out straight....help!!!
Christine W15.01.2016
Hey Katrina, Just a friend saying hello! I should add in my comment above that, as MacKenzie said, the poses she led us to, through, up, down, and around were my worst asana encounters for a long time (throw in twisted triangle pose and I would have walked off my mat an absolute wreck!) Anyway, it takes a while, it takes dedication to yourself and to yoga, but eventually, you learn to accept what is and when you do that things seem to open up, soften, and release and you learn to hang out with ourself on the mat in difficult poses. Then, one day, you realize how beautifully perfect you are. I refer to myself as "tragically hip".....we are all with you. I promise you that. All my love, Christine
Anne Berit15.01.2016
Hi Katrina, I just hate when a class makes me feel like that! I have been there, believe you me! But at the same time, these are the classes that helps me the most, teach me so much about myself and bring new insight to the way I work, the way I'm wired. It took some practice to let go of the tendency to be better, do more, compare myself to the teachers and so on. When I finally managed to so, wow, what a relief. I have acomlished the most when I turned down my efforts. If I make it easier on the body it is easier on the soul (or whatever you want to call it, too) And as for age and body parts, well, in my mind I'm doing grate, and i see no reason to shatter that illusion by looking in a mirror while making my versions of poses :-) A while ago I worked as a massage therapist and whenever a client had reactions similar to yours I was, secretly, super happy about it, because I knew that feeling like this, and facing it makes room for such great changes. You are you and I am me and MacKenzie here is the super athlete expert. Apples and oranges, there is no way to make a sensible comparison. Like I said in my comment to this class, good riddance to bad rubbish! Leg and hip work can work wonders for the mind, even if it feels anything but wonderful at the time. I hope you dont mind my sticking my nose in where it does not really belong, but your comment really touched something in me and I find it hard to stay away when that happens.
Andy15.01.2016
Thanks for baring and sharing Katrina. That's an important step. Namaste
MacKenzie19.01.2016
Katrina, In many ways these types of comments sadden me but more than that I see a powerful opportunity to witness your reaction and cultivate change. By witnessing and acknowledging your reaction you have the choice to attach to those feelings of inadequacy or let them go. Those moments can be powerful. I know it can be hard when you see something and it's not what's showing up in your body. Regardless of age and flexibility those moments happen for everyone, including myself. I am human (although slightly pretzel like). Thank you Anne, Andy and Christine for acknowledging and sharing personal experiences in regards to Katrina's experience. We all are in this human experience together. The more we feel, the more vulnerable we can all be, I believe the better off this world will be. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you all. Sending love your way.
Katrina15.01.2016
Hi, lovely foot and calf stretches the rest of the class was not for me - felt defeated by your postures and just felt a sad crumpling sickled foot bad kneed ugly person and it felt competitive even though you said it wasn't and even though you seemed sweet..the sweeter you were the older I felt..
Gael16.01.2016
Hi, really nice and calming, the split at the beginning without beeing warm enough was challenging. Thanks!
MacKenzie19.01.2016
Gael, It brings awareness into the moment, right? The same pose has to be approached differently every time we do it. Thank you.
Ilse10.02.2016
Hi Mackenzie, thank you for this class. I usually find your vinyasa classes very difficult and challenging, but when I saw this hatha class I booked it to watch later and I am glad I did! I love your yin classes too. Recently I changed my approach to my yoga practices from pushing myself too far and then feeling angry if I couldn't get into a pose, to a quiet, mindful and calm approach. This was necessary because of certain physical issues, but I prefer the slow approach of hatha and slow flow much more even if it is not by any means less challenging at times, I prefer the slowness because it is then that I can really feel the pose and become one with it because there is time to do so. Thanks again, hope you bring more slow hatha to ekhart yoga!xxx
MacKenzie12.02.2016
Ilse, What a wonderful comment that put a smile on my face. The slower hatha style, I agree, is quite lovely. I am glad that you felt you had the time to receive the benefits of the postures. I will definitely bring more slow hatha classes to Ekhart. :) Sending you well wishes.
