Stress is endemic in our modern world. This talk explores how we can empower ourselves by taking our yoga off our mats to loosen from stress patterns.

This talk is part of a series called 'Loosening From Patterns' – a mix of yoga philosophy made relevant and an exploration of some of the more common patterns we get entangled in. Here are links to the rest of the classes in the series:
Patterns: The Yoga Sutras
Patterns: Going deeper
Patterns: Getting there
Patterns: Pure enjoyment
Patterns: Achievement
Patterns: Relationship with time

Great talk. I use the micro-break regularly. I like the questions for self-study. Good to revisit as often as possible.

This video was a great refresher. I have been trying to take breathing or microbreaks at work already, but the opportunity today to watch your class and think about where my stress comes from was really valuable. Thank you!
David09.02.2015
Great Laura. Keep going with the Micro-breaks and you will bear fruit.

Thank you David. Your talk has helped bring me awareness to the stress I experience and I love the micro break practice.
David17.11.2015
Thanks Denise - I love the micro-break too! Started 15 years ago and still loving it...
Dionne11.02.2015
Thanks David! That was very insightful! Will keep this in mind when I start to feel out of whack :)
David17.02.2015
Thanks Dionne - and don't just keep in mind, do...;-)

I love the idea of rooting out stress from where it's hiding and breaking these patterns; thanks David for bringing consciousness to this. I guess awareness is the first step to changing anything and helping us to live our yoga!
David09.02.2015
Thank you Claire. And yes awareness is key - and my next talk will be on the "prop of awareness" so watch out for that one!
David10.11.2015
Many thanks for the recent burst of feedback - suspect this has now been linked to a program! Always good to hear & when it comes to micro-breaks: practice, practice, practice everyday and the magic WILL happen.
David27.02.2015
Thanks Alexandra - the great thing about the micro break is that you can go as deep as you wish - a simple de-stress tool or a doorway into the mysterious nature of self.

Thanks Lorna!

Thank David; some useful distress tips that I will definitely try including the micro break.
Ilse27.04.2015
Wonderful! I will try it.
Patricia10.02.2015
Thank you David. I'm not only going to pratice the micro-break myself but I'll also share it with other, starting with my own family. Thanks for the inspiration.
David10.02.2015
Lovely! Sharing makes the world go round!

I am luckily(?) not one of those people who feels stressed in my head so it's not very often that I really feel stressed. But having recently been diagnosed with IBS I've come to realise just how big a role stress is silently playing in my life. I look forward to putting this micro break into regular practice and hopefully experiencing a difference. Thank you!
Rebecca16.04.2015
The idea of "yoga as a pill" I've never heard this before. Its very true for me. This is something I do and had't realised until your talk just now. Definitely a pattern for me to change.
David16.04.2015
Thanks Rebecca - you are not alone! Yoga as a pill (and yoga as a lifestyle/ego accessory!) are big ones in today's yoga world. One tip to play with: sit quietly for a few minutes, relax and ground in yourself before starting practice (or clicking play on EY video). Doing this enables me to start from a position of relaxation which powered up my practice.
Rachael17.02.2015
I'm going to incorporate micro breaks into my days. Such an easy, yet affective tool. Thank you.
David17.02.2015
Great Rachel. Thank you!
Jessica09.11.2015
Thank you so much, interesting to stop and pause and realize how high my stress level is... micro breaks works wonderful! I will check out your other videos as well. Namaste
Deena03.03.2016
Thank you David, I like the idea of allowing space to "explore and play".
Nicole09.11.2015
Love it! thanks to show us an easy way to calm down and maybe loose for ever those tensions with the micro breaks! Thanks again for your positiveness and encouragement!
Viliyana13.11.2015
Thank you for the tips! I just came out of a very stressful period of my life and now that I´m out it still feels like my body is under stress... I have breathing problems ever since. I´m working on breaking the pattern by practicing box breathing and just be more aware.
David17.11.2015
Thanks Viliyana - whatever breathing technique you are practicing I would suggest also spending some time every day just observing breathing as it is without trying to change it. My experience is that this "just watching" allows the space for breath to relax to arise...
Maria06.01.2016
Found this video thanks to the deep release program. Thank you for this eye-opening information. Now i realise that my body is slowly getting used to an increased level of stress for quite a while now. I was already working on that but now I realize the importance of reducing much more.
Brenda30.05.2017
That was awesome. Will definitely start doing the microbreak. It's inspiring because I think that if I don't help myself to start changing my mind will register this as the 'new normal' and I don't want that. Thank you
David30.05.2017
Thanks for feedback Brenda. Good to hear & success with micro-break.
Dinah10.04.2020
Dear David, thanks a lot, it feels like finally somebody understood a problem that even professionals most often overlook. You made things clearer to me, gave me hope and even really clear advice with how to practice, remain aware and get out of this mess. I'd love to have the few minutes after 15:40 - that is just the micro break - as an audio file to bring to work, because it helps me to be talked through it...
