If you’re a Kapha person, you probably long for a sloooow, quiet Yin practice. However, it might be more beneficial for you to try a more active class. One that challenges you. One that’ll help you to step out of your comfort zone. So, here you go: a practice for Kapha Dosha! Not sure if this one’s for you? If friends describe you as peaceful, sensitive, grounded, stable, compassionate, patient plus maybe a little bit possessive, attached and stubborn, then the answer is yes, this class is for you. Try it daily or at least weekly for a while and watch your energy levels rise. The other 2 classes in this Doshas series are: Calm down: A cooling and balancing Pitta dosha class and Get grounded: A sweet and gentle Vata dosha class.

Thank you Irina. It took mea while to write this. I did this class everyday last week...sometimes twice a week. I will stick with it. It fits me like a glove. I feel so energized physically but mentally calm and settled after.
Irina31.05.2017
Thanks for sharing, Nekahia. I'm happy to hear the practice fits & leaves you feeling energized and settled. Wishing you a wonderful day! x

Thank you, dear Irina. Once I got over the disappointment that we weren't going to do a " long sloooow, quiet Yin practice", I really enjoyed this class :) Although I might not be doing the chicken in this lifetime, I really appreciated the pace and sequence of the Sun Salutations...seems you were really thinking about us kaphas! I'll repeat it daily this week. Big Love to you!

Very up lifting , but my arms are no way long enough for chicken ! Thank you Irina
Irina27.05.2017
Happy to hear you enjoyed the practice - even without the chicken. :-) x

Tripod has always eluded me or I have avoided it as I feel my head is going to crack down the centre with the weight but this chicken version was a good one for me to step a bit towards it. Enjoyed the practice thanks

Thanks so much for all your comments! I loved reading them. Happy to hear you're enjoying the practice. x
Divya08.06.2017
Hallo Irina, thank you for this lovely morning class. I am new to the crow pose and could go half way there but then my head starting hurting. With hurting I mean I could feel the pressure on it very intensely. How can I go about it? Really appreciate any advice or tips in this regards. Much love, Divya.
Divya10.06.2017
Hi Irina, i meant to type chicken but typed crow, sorry about that. Thank you for the detailed reply. I just realized that i was putting most of the my body weight on the head and my hands dint work as strongly. Folding the mat is great idea. I will continue practicing with you and this practice actually kept me energized throughout my work day. I actually felt it. Thank you again for bringing this practice to me. Namasthe.
Irina08.06.2017
Hi Divya, Just making sure we're talking about the same pose here: did you mean chicken? Crow might look similar, but usually in crow you're not placing any weight on your head (usually, the head doesn't even touch the floor). Also, just to be sure: if you have any doubts about a pose and/or if your body hurts in any pose - skip it, adjust it and/or find an eperienced teacher willing to work with you on this specific pose. It's hard for me to tell from here what the best approach to this pose would be for you, because I can't see your practice or know anything about you, your life & your body. That being said though, if you say you can feel intense pressure, it sounds as if there's no sharp pain involved. If that is true, then I'd suggest to mindfully, with love and care, keep practicing this pose. Fold your mat twice (or more, but please make sure (!!!) it's still stable - you don't want a wobbly base for your head) and see if this helps. Also, keep pushing the floor with your hands, move your shoulders away from your ears and make sure your arms are doing most of the work here - so your head is not (and by the way, should not, in this pose) bearing all or most of the weight. I hope this helps. xx

As a Kapha-Vata person, I tried this practice this morning to get going. Because of my low blood pressure I can nearly always do a sloooow practice;). And that is a little vicious circle, I want to do a class that improves my circulation, but because of my circulation I can´t do a class that would stir it. Today I began to practice this class anyway, but after 12 minutes I had to stop due to my circulation. Could you please give me an advice what a Kapha can do to get going when an activating practice is too much for the blood pressure? Namaste, Gesine
Irina02.07.2017
Hi Gesine, Thanks for sharing your experience. Also, thanks for your questions. Sorry to hear about your low blood pressure. Also, sorry to say it's hard to give an answer without knowing more about you and when exactly you experience uncomfort. For instance, slow sun salutations could work, but whether or not if does really depends on your specific body - it's different for everyone and it'll be different for you from day to day as well. Experimenting with mixing in sun salutations in vata classes might work for you. Wishing you all the best. x Irina

I am not kapha disha although I think we are all a bit of everything but more of some, so I do all of them anyway! Thank you, needed this after sitting and working on the computer all day.xxx
Irina28.05.2017
You're absolutely right - we all are a bit of everything but (for most of us) more of some. So yes, perfect decision to do them all. Also, perfect to chose a kapha class after sitting & working on the computer all day. Glad you enjoyed it. xxx
Liane24.05.2017
Thank you Irina for this flowing and sweet challenging kapha based class. I really enjoyed it and will repeat it from time to time!!! Namaste <3
Trina20.09.2017
What a wonderful morning practice, Irina! Thank you. I am the type that would avoid a too active class but for sure I need to not give in to my blue mood. I live the position you call chicken. I have learned it here in Denmark as 'the clown'. I will definitely come back to this class to keep my mood and spirits high. I also look forward to trying many more of your classes. You're a wonderful teacher. Namasté
Irina20.09.2017
Thanks for your warm words, Trina! Loved reading them. Happy to hear the class kept your mood and spirits high! I didn't know that what I call the Chicken is also called the Clown! Interesting... and seems appropiate. ;-) Hope you're having a wonderful Wednesday! x

Haha! Yes, one of your favorites, I know. ;-) xx
pernette18.04.2020
hello Irina thank you for this beautiful dynamic practice. I regretted not being able to do the chicken posture, not more than the wheel that I replaced by the bridge. I believe that in my case it is really a lack of musculature of the arms and also some fear of standing on my head (In the tripod standing posture, I don't do it if I'm by my own.) What could you suggest to replace the chicken posture? Thanks for your attention and take care of you and yours. Pernette
Irina18.04.2020
Hi Pernette, Thanks for your message and your question! The bridge is a perfect choice to replace the wheel with, glad that that worked out for you. As for the chicken - instead you might want to give the crow a try - perfectly fine if your feet won't leave the floor, but playing around with this pose will help to build strength in your core and arms, which is just what you need to safely move into chicken. I hope this helps. Much love to you! x

Kamila24.11.2020
Hi Irina, I'm quite conservative when it comes to trying new teachers, but today I was really happy I did. I've been having issues with my back but I felt so energized during the class that I dared to try the chicken and it worked well! Thank you for challenging me, I really enjoyed it. Kamila
Irina24.11.2020
Hi dear Kamila, thanks so much for sharing! I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed the class so much AND that you dared to try the chicken! I love that. Warm hug to you, Irina
Joan22.12.2018
Thank you Irina! I loved this practice, the flow of it. When I saw you doing the ‘chicken’, Ididn’t think I could do it, but I did, haha! My head hurt though. Maybe I didn’t get the right spot to ‘lean’ on? Thanks again!
Joan22.12.2018
Thank you for the quick response. I am going to try again with your tips.
Irina22.12.2018
Thanks for sharing, Joan! I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed the practice. And YAY for doing the chicken! That's amazing! As for the hurting head: it could be that your spot was slightly off. The right spot is eight fingerwidths above your eyebrows. That said, for a lot of people this spot is sensitive in the beginning. Fold your mat (a few times if necessary, make sure it's still safe and steady though!) might help you out here. Also, press your hands firmly on the mat, you don't really want to lean on your head here. Activate your arms and shoulders as well. Hope this helps! Love, Irina
Juliane26.05.2019
Namasté Irina, thank you for your beautiful class. I also have low blood pressure so I felt dizzy at some point. So I'm practicing a little bit slower, wich helps a lot. I am also careful with the "chicken" because of neck problems. So what could be an alternative especially if you have more weight to deal with? Won't it be an alternative to do the"crow" so the neck has no weight to carry? Love and light <3 Juli
Irina26.05.2019
Namaste, Juliane! Thank you for your warm words and question. You intuited correctly - crow would be a great alternative! Handstand would be another perfect one to replace chicken with. Also, glad you practiced a bit slower and that doing so helped with the dizziness. Much love to you!
