The tissue connection between the hips and the knees is often overlooked. If you have sensitive knees and a tight back then try out this sequence that will get the communication between your pelvis and your knees working, creating freedom all the way up the spine. Grab a towel for the end of class as we finish with a great release for the IT band (which connects the pelvis to the knees!)

Hi Julie! Really fun practice that for me really opened up my notoriously stiff feet and ankles (which I know from being a Julie student, also feed into the knees and hips relationship). Would love to revisit this one. I wasn't quite sure what I was "supposed" to feel during the move where we bend over the bent leg during Janu Sirsasana. To me it gave a light stretch in the adductor of the straight leg but not a whole lot else other than massaging my thigh on the floor. Would love to hear your thoughts on this for when I revisit the class again. Thank you!

oh that was hard - I don't have full flexion in my right knee. However I can feel layers easing so I will repeat. Thank you.

Thank you, Julie! That was very clever ! I love that you rebalance rather than force a stretch!

I can do the bow and my front body goes up, b ut not my legs. What do I need to strengthen?

Thanks Julie, what about the towel exercise? Look forward to next sequence. I used to use foam rollers and not since you said not good idea for tight muscles :)

Hi Audrey, the towel exercise Julie refers to is in this class: https://www.yogaeasy.com/videos/release-the-it-band

Cramp in right hamstring when lifting up foot without hand. and sure enough that is the knee that is impacted - will keep doing this - had no idea my hamstrings and glutes weaker than my quads but now realise this is so thank you!

wow this was such good information and practice. Thank you JUlie
Barbara08.04.2025
That should say I trust I will be able to lift leg holding the ankle if I continue to practice?
Barbara08.04.2025
Love this sequence. I cannot lift my leg off the floor when I grab my ankle but can when I left go. Trust this will do,eh if I continue to repeat this practice?

thanks Julie, this is fascinating. loved it and can't wait to do it again and see how if affects my knee soreness!
Irina07.04.2025
The moment of truth came for me when letting go of the ankles I felt my hamstrings instantly cramp up. Diagnosis correct Dr Julie - the hamstrings need strengthening! Many thanks for this revealing class, I'll come back to it!

I suffer from knee pain quite frequently and have often suspected it’s a weakness or tightness in areas of my thighs so this was really helpful. It showed me how different my legs were and the burn on the hamstrings in the pulses, oof! Thank you Julie!
Linda05.04.2025
Love you new class, Julie. Your technical expertise shines through and helped me to release some tightness that’s really hard to get at. Thanks!

Thank you Julie! It was interesting to hear about possible causes for knee discomfort, I have been experiencing that, and maybe it's my IT needing to be stronger. I get some discomfort in one knee or sometimes the other knee, when I am bending it, such as in demi plies in dance, or going up or down stairs, and the discomfort happens suddenly and usually isn't sustained unless I repeat the motion, and I never know when it will flair up, so it's unpredictable!

Thank you! It was fun and relaxing :-)
