We carry a lot of tension around in neck and shoulders, especially if we do a desk-bound job. Here's a selection of movements that can be done as a stand-alone sequence. Highly recommended on a daily basis.
Dear Mark,
I woke up this morning with a terrible stiff neck and enormous headache, thinking it would take me days to get rid of it. Then I found your video and now the pain is gone - like a miracle! :-) Thank you so much for this useful video, I am definitely keeping it on my favorites to do it frequently now!
All the best, Anne
Mark13.01.2020

Christine03.12.2019
I love your classes. You two are a great team. I wonder what you think of self (or partner) massage in this area to relieve pain?
Mark04.12.2019
Thank you, Kiki! That's lovely! And yes, we're all for self massage (if you can get there) or massage under the hands of an expert - like Jackie, who's a talented bodyworker.
Christine13.11.2019
thanks again for the fun and great work!
Mark14.11.2019
You're welcome, Kiki!

Anne05.04.2020
What a life rescue these days of Covid-19! Home office, home schooling and a kindergarten kid on top of that, equals stressful times. I was so happy finding this class earlier this week and have now been doing it every day for five days. And it works! My shoulders and neck are so much better. I´ll keep doing this class regularly. Thank you!
Mark06.04.2020
Hi Anne! That's so lovely to hear! Thank you so much! Really pleased to know that it worked for you!
Lindsey13.11.2019
I loved that, thank you. I will certainly experiment with that is my classes. I really couldn’t hardly even get my fingers to touch in prayer behind my back so you think fists could work instead? Also interlacing fingers on the floor was fantastic, for people with less mobile shoulders would a strap be ok to use? I always get confused over which way to hold the strap to get the same movement in the head of the humerous?
Mark14.11.2019
Hi Lindsey! What lovely comments - thank you! Yes, I guess pressing fists firmly behind the back is a good thing to - altho' it won't help to eventually get the palms together - that's down mainly to wrist mobility. And yes, a strap is good to use if someone can't interlace their fingers in the floor work - I'd suggest making fists with the strap so that the fingers are pointing away from you (thumbs facing each other), or - if you can - outwardly rotate the shoulders more so that the fingers face each other - which is a little more work. Hope this helps!
Ilse15.11.2019

F11.11.2019
Yikes! At 16 minutes into the video the comment about "kissing" your partner made me uncomfortable. If a my yoga instructor made that comment I would never return to that class. Clearly the Ekhart yoga staff is one big happy family.
Also at 18:24 if you had shown this while you were standing it would have been easier for me to see and understand.
Mark12.11.2019
Hi F. Sorry if you missed the humour in the pretend kissing of my girlfriend. Humour, playfulness & irreverence play a big part in my approach to teaching movement & yoga - it seems to me that it's been missing for too long in traditional approaches. As to your second point, I think the visual & the the verbal instruction make it perfectly clear what I'm asking for for. Sorry it didn't resonate with you.
Claire02.11.2019
Hi Mark, really excellent class as always. Thanks Mark.
Mark02.11.2019
Thank you, Claire!
Barbara09.11.2019
Great practice thank you!N can i just ask the difference in shoulder joint between holding opposite elbows or reverse prayer? Thanks
Mark10.11.2019
Hi Barbara! Thanks! Glad you like it! Re your question - there is almost no benefit in holding the opposite elbows behind your back - minimal outward rotation of shoulders as compared with pressing the palms together and getting them as high up the back as you can. And certainly the work in the wrist joints in the latter position is crucial - and non-existent in the former. To be honest tho', if you REALLY want to mobilise wrist & shoulder joints, you have to move them - as demonstrated in most of the other material here. Hope that helps!
Sabine03.11.2019
Thanks Mark, now my neck and shoulders feel much better. Will do it regulary, because it`s very effectiv.
Mark04.11.2019
That's great Sabine! Glad you found it useful!

Sofie05.02.2021
Really enjoyed this class, Mark. I have a lot of tension headaches because of tension in neck and shoulders. Can you recommend some other classes that might help to loosen it all up? I prefer doing some yoga than taking medication... Thank you in advance.
Mark07.02.2021
That's awesome Sofie! Glad you enjoyed the class! You might want to check out our other, softer classes - 'Mellow Yellow' for instance.
Parveen21.04.2020

Mark17.07.2020
Any time. Just move slowly & smoothly, breathing fully & deeply as you do so.
Lindsay15.10.2020
These movements have made a dramatic difference for my tight neck and shoulders! Tightness I didn't even know I was carrying... thank you so much for offering this series. Sending love and gratitude to you from the midwest usa! xo
Mark15.10.2020
Wow - thanks, Lindsay! That's awesome feedback! So pleased it helped you! Hope you'll check out our other material too! x
Jamie10.10.2021
This was so good. I struggle with really tight shoulders and this was perfect. I will be coming back to this.
On a side note, I was doing this practice next to my dog, and when we got to the twisting part on the ground and you said if you're next to a partner, sneak in a kiss: my dog's butt was right there and I opted to skip that part. :)
Mark11.10.2021
Ha ha! Wise choice, Jamie! Glad you enjoyed the session tho'! Keep tuning in!
