Do you hold a lot of tension in your ribcage, around your heart and shoulder and neck area? Do you find it difficult to exhale and let go? Then this practice is for you.
In this short session using long-held poses, you will open up the chest from the inside out, allowing you to exhale longer and release stress, tension and emotion. The space created allows you to breath more deeply. You will also practice Pranayama that helps to elongate the exhale, supporting those effects even more.
You will also release tension in the neck and shoulder area and you may even feel a release of tension inside your head and around your brain. This can heighten your awareness of how thoughts alone can create physical tension throughout your body. You will end the practice with a guided Savasana and/or meditation. You'll feel softer, lighter, more open and less tense after this session. Different options are given for each pose, so you can adapt them to your needs.
Props: blanket, blocks, bolster and/or pillow.

L❤ve it, José. So glad you spoil us regularly with your new yin yoga classes. Thank you for that.

Dear Lani, it is ok to become anxious, it might show you just exactly what you need to become aware of in that moment, but it is uncomfortable. See if you can allow the anxiousness to be there and observe how it enfolds. If that is too hard to do then stop for a moment with what you are doing, you can even lie down in order to relax your breath and to allow yourself to calm down and then try again. I hope this helps. Warmly, José

Thank you.. 5 month pregnant and everything’s growing, I profoundly appreciate the space this class gave me. I did do the breathing without the hold, remembering something sbout not holding your breath during pregnancy..?
José30.05.2018
Correct Toute! You can always try it and see how it feels. If you feel any side effects then just breathe normally.

Thank you José for this practice. I did the first part standing as I have knee issues and it was quite intense on my shoulder area but felt space created in the chest area.

I have a really chesty cough and was looking for something to help. I couldn't find anything specific for coughs/bronchitis so decided to do this. It really helped calm my coughing fits and my chest feels much better now. Thank you :)

I love your classes Jose, the only thing is, quite often I find your voice gets carried off and it's challenging to hear you... Thank you for another lovely session.

The only video I could open was with Esther. Everyone else will not open.

This was very helpful. Just by gradual letting go my head almost touched shoulder both sides. At times holding the exhale felt a stretch until I imagined it as a continuing exhale with no breath left to come out, just awareness of the diaphragm position. Your voice is very soothing and enabling. Thank you Jose.

dorothea18.01.2023
Hi Jose! A great class as usual! Thank you very much!! A quick question: In the first exercise (hands against the wall) - apart from a tightness in the neck (office neck) I feel a tightness in the shoulder joints, making it difficult to bend more towards the wall. (so not the armpits, but rather what feels like the shoulder joints with lifted arms as viewed from the back side of my body - sorry, difficult to describe). Would you recommend to just repeat this exercise until this loosens a bit or would you recommend another exercise (in addition)? Thank you very much for your help! Dorothea
José14.02.2023
Dear Doretha, try to play with your arm position: widen them, or bend the elbows and place them against the wall and let your hands rest upon the back of your head, or do one arm at the time (this way you can turn a bit away from the compression). I hope this helps! Let me know.
