Do you struggle with deepening your breath or feeling freedom around your ribs? If so, this is the session for you. When the area around the thoracic spine is stressed and the diaphragm has limited movement we lock the body in 'fight/flight' mode. In this class I'll take you through somatic and fascial release exercises to help you find freedom throughout the upper body. You'll breathe more easily and also relieve tension in your neck and jaw! (In this class Julie refers to her Truth about stretching practice, which you can watch by clicking this link.)

Props: yoga belt, pool noodle or a rolled up towel.

Thanks Julie, this was great. The gentleness was really good for me. I have idiopathic scoliosis from childhood, and the lateral curve is worst at my diaphragm and lower ribcage. I'm trying to find ways to very very gently bring a bit more movement and mobility there. I found the rolling brought an unfamiliar but good sensation, especially on my sticking-out side (the outside of the curve). Please make more classes if you have ideas for working with a severely stuck diaphragm/ribcage.

Gosh firstly thank you Julie - this practice completely dropped down my nervous system and now I am yawning away. It release everywhere it intended to release in my intercostal muscles and my pectarols etc. My easy pose in sitting had shifted and my shoulders released easily to the ground in cactus. I have one side with less side bend and I suspect a weekly go at this would help that. thank you.

After a day of log splitting this was the perfect class. At the beginning of the class, when I was breathing deeply I could feel my shoulders tensing up, after rolling this had completely changed. I don’t have a roller but even with a blanket after rolling on one side the difference between the two was so obvious. Who knew such subtle movements could make such a difference! Thank you so much Julie!

I hesitated taking this class because I wanted to have something more impactful in my limited time available, but I'm so glad I did. Even if you've practiced for years, it was so helpful to expand our perspective on the importance of breathing and the movement truly had immediate feel good results.

Wonderful class and explanation again Julie! I was wondering if you can create a class like this to help getting more comfortable in easy pose?
