Different aspects of our practice interweave to sustain and deepen our efforts, both physically and non-physically. We can use the body to affect energy and use energy to affect the body. This class explores the connections between the first chakra (the Root chakra), the liver meridian, the adductors and the glutes. Lots of aspects for focusing and deepening the practice.

This is class 1 of the Chakras, Meridians and Asana program.

For many years my yoga practice was a physical matter, addressing physical issues. Gradually other aspects and benefits of this practice became more and more clear to me. The more emotional effects became something I worked towards and were not only a nice, added bonus. During the past couple of years, this last one particularly my asana practice have been put almost completely on the back burner. Things happen and there is only so much one can manage. During this time, though, the psychological and emotional stress and challenges I have had to deal with demanded a great deal of self control, insight, perseverance and, basically, me not freaking out. Many times I have found myself fully aware of the simple fact that had it not been for all the input I have subjected myself to from all the wonderful yoga teachers I have had the privilege of practicing with over the past 9-10 years, things would in all likelihood have been very different for me right now. How I would have dealt with and come out of life challenges I will not even think about. Even if no-one had told me that yoga has the power to influence all aspect of a human being, I do believe I would have come to that conclusion on my own as this is the experience I have been having. I will definitely keep going with the classes to follow in this series. I am absolutely sure it will have an affect, if not a felt one right away, then subtly and over time. Thank you so much, Anat, for your way of teaching and for the knowledge you share.

I have a question regarding contracting the pelvic floor muscles, is this similar as doing kegal exercises?

Hi Virginia, I'm afraid due to her illness, Anat is no longer able to answer questions. The contraction I think you're referring is a very light, subtle one intended to help you draw awareness to the root chakra. Whereas kegal exercises are done to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles. Similar area, different 'goal' / intention! I hope that makes sense. Love Kirsty at EY.

Dear Anat, I always find touy classes really amazing : lots of teachings, wise words and advice, and also really good on my body. But this class resonated with me even more as I've been suffering from coccyx pain for the last 14 months. I so loved this class Anat. I am experiencing sciatic issues and so flooding the pelvic floor and first chakra areas with prana was really useful for me. The cueing about the little contraction at the end of the exhale was also super helpful to me. I felt it as you were talking about it. Anger as annoyance or irritable - yup that's how I feel sometimes. I'm guessing that I may have some repressed anger as well - I am relieved and grateful for your perspective. Thank you for sharing so generously your wisdom and compassionate guidance.

Such a beautiful class, Anat! Brings me back right to the core of what I believe yoga to be about. I have been doing Burg's Internal Alchemy course and this SO dovetails in with his phenomenal teachings. Cultivating a practise based on transforming our energy into life prana that enriches us and benefits us and then those around us means so much more than just a physical practise, as important as that is now I'm in my mid-60's. Hi Gülsüm, I am not schooled at this, my knowledge is very shallow. I have heard of the fist chakra being linked to the pelvic plexus, the second to the aortic plexus, the third to the coeliac plexus, fourth to cardiac plexus, fifth to cervical plexus, sixth to the optic chiasm and seventh to the whole limbic system, but I can't direct you to any specific study or source, Im afraid. What i believe is that the chakras will influence the whole nervous system. What do you think?

Thank you for this lovely practice. I've recently come to the intention of opening my hips and let them be more free and fluid. Most practices focus on the physical asanas and feel much too strong. This class was so profound and gentle. I also liked the link with the meridians and chakra's, many things became clear during this practice.
