In this short session you will learn to breathe into the ribcage, enhance your lung capacity and 'clean up' the lungs by practicing a specific breathing exercise. This will make you more aware of where you hold tension in your chest and the areas the breath doesn't reach when you are breathing normally. You will experience how the breath influences your mind and how it can help to deepen your practice. The poses will release tension in the chest, back, hips and legs and, as always, we end with a guided Savasana. This is a great class to do if you've been on your feet all day, or behind a computer, or you want to wind down after a long day. Different options and variations are offered in order for everyone to benefit from the poses. You'll need: blanket, bolster and pillow.

Fantastic calming practice, really enjoyed it. The counting of the breath was very helpful for me. I did not find that it interfered at all with the yin state. When you count out loud it helps the student to follow you rather than drifting off and not perhaps doing the breathing pattern correctly. Thank you.

Thanks Jose, really relaxing. I can not do the breathing though, it always makes me anxious, but instead I opt for deep inhales and exhales which I find relaxes me more. xxx

Dear Ilse, pranayama is supposed to stir up stuff. So if you are up for it, try it out (4 counts) and see what happens; physical, emotional and mental reactions. Then stop for a moment to sit with what came up, it might be very insightful and makes you more aware. Just a tip. :)

Thank you José, even though it was a short practice, I think the breathing made it feel longer and gave it extra 'value'. It certainly grounded and centered me which I really needed ??

Love the sequence and your calming tone, but unfortunately the counting is very distracting, especially for a Yin class, doesn't make it feel very yin.

Beautiful! Thank you so much Jose! I didn't know how much I needed this... I have always struggled with pranayama exercises - especially with breath retention - they can make me feel panicky... but whether it was your calm guidance or doing them within yin poses, this really worked for me and I found some deeper release in my mind and body through the practice. Thank you! x
