This a yoga practice especially for those who have concerns with sciatica, or the periformis or for those whose want to loosen and articulate around the hamstrings, hips and glutes. Starting with pelivic tilts to heighten awareness of the lower body, Andrew then guides you through some semi-supine twists. Practices to open the hips and strecht the hamstrings without compressing the sciatic nerve.

Thank you so much Andrew. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate and enjoy your teachings. I just started certifying in Thai Bodywork...many sciatic relieving moves there... The practice helped my sciatic pain a great deal but as you said I must continue stretching and working that area probably for life. It's all good as then I get to continue enjoying your super video. You are a wonderful Yoga teacher thoughtful, patient and effective. Thank you for sharing this lovely gift with the rest of the One. Love and blessings in you life. Margaret; goat herder from Wellsboro PA. (the woman who wrote in the request for this video), YOU ROCK THE CASBA! Over and out.

Thank you Laura for your kind words

Hi Anastasia, I would endeavour to practice as much as you can on both sides, even if you have to modify the posture on your affected side. Just take yourself to the boundaries of your comfort zone and no further. You have to think about the rest of your body, how the pelvis aligns, and how this influences your spine, your shoulders, your neck. Feel the weight distribution through your feet. Even with your periformis issue, make your practice as balanced as you can make it. Have patience, sometimes these issues can lead us to a better understanding of our bodies and our approach to what we do, in our practice, in our lives. Namaste Andrew

Thank you for your kind words, (glad I could help Margaret). Ravi, I would avoid overly tensing your quads, I would recomend straightening your legs from a semi supine position, maybe using a strap around the ball of the foot and play with how the muscle answer nerve feels.

Thank you Andrew for your practice and advice. We have just had our Thanksgiving holiday and with all the preparation and entertaining, I did not practice yoga for several weeks. I now have what I believe to be sciatica on my left side. I am definitely back to gentle yoga and have learned my lesson as to how important it is for my body and mind!

Thanks for this Andrew.I have a nerve pain/tingling in the left frontal side of the left thigh (it started during my second trimester but hasn't cleared almost a year after delivery) It isn't the sciatic nerve but it's similar pain in the frontal nerve, is there any aasan you would recommend, to free that nerve from the discomfort. Thanks, Smriti

Martha19.03.2016
Great class, Andrew. I am trying to find more classes like this one, on this site, to produce the same effect. What can you recommend? Many thanks!
Kirsty26.04.2016
Hi Martha, apologies for the delay in replying, I think Andrew must have missed this question. There are a couple of other classes you might find helpful - https://www.ekhartyoga.com/videos/lower-back-and-hip-space and - https://www.ekhartyoga.com/videos/relieving-sequence-for-tired-legs-and-lower-back-challenges Please bear in mind they are not specifically for sciatica so please listen to any 'warning signs' your body is giving you and stay well away from any pain. Best wishes.

Thank you so much Andrew. That pain in the sciatic is new to me, I hope it does׳t persist. I'll do that class every day this week!

Thanks for a lovely class, Andrew. I'm just coming out of a bout of lower back pain, not exactly sciatica, but your sequence helped me a lot with transitioning back to my regular practice. I'll add this video to my favorites to do it again every now and then.

Dear Andrew, Thank you so much for this practice. I have been suffering with a very painful periformis syndrome that affects the sciatica for four months. The doctor said no running, no cycling but yoga is OK. The problem is, it is so painful on the affected side that I can't get to a lo of the positions I used to be able to do, like down dog or pigeon. The other side is fine. Is it OK to continue practising only with the unaffected side? Namaste, Anastasia
Kimberly05.03.2015
I just started suffering from sciatica this week due to a new workout I am doing. Thank you so much for this class!!! My inner thigh and buttock feel much better. I will start doing this practice just about every night for relief and to keep it at bay :) Namaste :D

Andrew, i have had problems with nerve pain in legs and hips since working in a Nursing Home (Hence i left sooner than later..) I had a feeling this practice would be beneficial to me since seeing it last week.. This is the second day i have done this practice, interlacing it with the beginners program.. I have to say that my legs and hips have never felt so good. I am actually astonished at how bad i felt before, starting to walk like one of my elderly clients, the transformation in 2 days is mind blowing to me. Thank you so much, your class, as always, is exactly what i need and at the pace right for me. Blessed Be x Rachael

Carmen07.02.2017
Hello Andrew, I have had SI Joint problems for 3 years which has left me with a lot of muscle imbalances and the piriformis is tight on both sides. I ve done this class a couple of times, it was recommended and I think it is helping. I really enjoy the pace gentleness. How often can I do this class? I do an hour of yoga and pilates in the am and another hour in the evening, and short stretches throughout the day. Thanks for any advice, looking forward to getting back to a normal life. I stopped doing yoga after getting injured so I need to ease my way back in. I need to regain both strength and flexibility. Thanks so much.
Andrew07.02.2017
Hi Carmen, my advice would be to vary what you do each day. Maybe trying this practice 2 or 3 times a week, but, makes sure you give yourself days of rest and also maybe of something a little more challenging if it feels ok. It sounds like your body needs to heal and no amount of stretching or strengthening will speed this up, think more on the lines of preparation, creating stability whilst also enjoying what you can do right now. Andrew

Thank you so much Andrew
Sophie21.09.2018
Thank you Andrew! I am still struggling after I fractured my hip and my shoulder 8 months ago. I followed this practice thinking of pelvic rehabilitation however it is my shoulder which had the greatest healing. And I feel really better now. Gratefully Sophie
Carolyn08.09.2018
This practice has really helped to relieve my temporary sciatica- thank you. I will look out for more of your videos, as I enjoyed your encouraging approach
Rain27.07.2019
Thank you for this class Andrew. I have recently been suffering sciatica due to several long driving trips. I felt pain as I did a few of the moves in your program, especially the move lying down with the belt around the ball of the foot, and gently moving the leg towards the inside...wow, burst of pain in my piriformis muscle. But honestly when I was done with the program, I felt no pain, whereas I had some pain before I started. I won't claim this is my miracle cure! But it definitely did some good right away. I know you suggested to another commenter that she should only do this program 2-3 times a week because of her SI joint problem, but would it be okay to do it more often? Say, every other day? Thanks, Rain
Rain30.07.2019
Awesome, thank you! I've done it twice now in the last four days with some Hatha in between and I really do feel a lot better. My pain has gone from 10/10 to about 4/10 - that's a huge improvement and I can see it will get even better! So glad I found your programs!
Andrew30.07.2019
Hi Rain, your body is the best teacher so I would even be tempted to practice the program every day for a week and see how you go on. Any problems, just back off a little. I hope this helps. Andrew
