In the first of his interviews, John Immel, Ayurvedic expert and founder of JoyfulBelly.com sheds light on ‘toxins’ - a word readily bandied about in the media - but what exactly are they and where do they come from? How do we recognise the build up of these toxins and how do we best support our body to eliminate them safely according to our body type?

Very interesting, lots of useful information, also presented in a very simple and down to earth way. Having the whole idea of detox demystified, making it seem both doable and like a good thing to look into. As for tests, I feel the same way as you, Esther. After having made quite a few changes in my life over the years changes have come to my health and this makes it difficult to pick the right answer in these quizzes. Should I answer as if I hadn't made changes and therefore having other symptoms than I do to day, staying true to my initial habits, maybe even dosha, so to speak. Or should I pick the answers relevant today and thereby indicating something different as to what body type I might be. After listening to the interview I am more inclined to go towards the first option. I am what I am and the outcome depends on my lifestyle. Then again, what if I by making the necessary choices and changes to support my body I actually change my body type characteristics so much that I in fact appear to have changed from one dosha to an other? I guess I will have to stay tuned to find out :-)

Hi Anne, I had to ask Irina this question and Irina has answered the question for you even if I write it down. Generally put there are 2 sorts of constitutions, one that you are born with (basis constitution) and one that changes anyway during your life, for example each stage of life has a dosha that is more active, when you are a baby/child you are more kapha, when you grow older pitta rises and vata becomes more dominant more towards the end of your life. But the test on the website of joyful belly, tells you to look at the answers that were/are true for you most of your life. Which means that that test looks at the basis constitution that you have, the one you are born with. It's about what doesn't really change so much (things like beng tall, or short, bone structure etc.. that doesn't change really. talking fast/slow, liking warm or cold weather etc. So answer the questions with the idea of "most of your life". TAmazing Ester, as usual! Great program. I never heard about tongue scraping before...i just did it a couple of times with the tooth brush but I learnt my lesson today! I had to pause the video and do my best at scraping my tongue with dental floss and it makes so much difference already..! could you suggest a tongue scraper to buy? thanks! Looking forward to this program!
