This classic from the archives never gets boring! If you're looking to test your fitness and stamina and get a bit – or maybe a lot! – sweaty, give this fast-paced power yoga practice a try!

This energetic class comes from Larry Schultz, David's first yoga teacher in San Francisco. It's called The Rocket because it "gets you there faster" and is a blended mish-mash of the Ashtanga Yoga Primary and Secondary series. Expect arm balances, hip openers, balance poses, backbends and inversions.

Props: a towel, to mop your brow!

Awesome class! Thank you for sharing this
Anne Berit14.12.2014
It took me a while to find the courage to try this class as crashing into my limitations, with or without glory, is not on top of my favourite things to do list..... However!!! WOW!! If there ever was a class to show me how me how much I have actually learned from these 3+ years of steady practice, it would be this one! Where my body falls short my mind kicks in and fists banging on floor in frustration fueld rage is now a thing of the past. Never ever did I have so much fun NOT accomplishing what I was hoping to do. Now, that is progress :-) Also working hard tends to make forget my known boundaries and limitations on a physical level. GREAT! And on top of that, I could probably do this class for years and still have a bit to go, or option for advancement as I try to see it :-)
Annemarie04.01.2016
oh yeah, i did it! I I was beating around the bush about this class since it was released, and wow: I survived ;) well i really enjoyed this class, skipped some of the vinyasas, modified the postures, and voila, there it goes, the Rocket ;) thank you, David for your guideance and also thanks to Rose and Sandra.
Sarah05.04.2015
Great fun class :-) Thank you David, Sandra and Rose, truly inspirational, joyful and lots of fun. Namaste.
Nichi11.01.2016
New favourite! Thanks David and Larry x
Dee08.11.2014
Wow, tough! I saw this class yesterday and thought yes I will do that at the weekend but I was afraid! Loved the mix up of Ashtanga and of course working together in a group. Thank you David, Sandra and Rose! And here's to Larry! Namaste
Andrea11.11.2014
Aaaaaaand it`s downloaded :-) this class really has everything in it, I enjoyed it very much. It felt a bit like running a long distance, where at a certain point you think you can no longer go on (esp. towards the end) but once you crossed that bridge you feel like you can go on forever. Really great and wunderbar. lots of love
Jocelyne07.11.2014
Fun to do the class with Sandra and Rose ;-)) Such a challenging class is more fun as a group! Thank you
Christine W16.04.2016
Hi David, Checked in with "The Rocket" today after spending a beautiful winter finding myself with soft, open, quiet yoga. It is an amazing thing, when you consciously choose a practice you think (when you start) will decrease your strength, it actually makes you stronger. I have a lot of fun with this class, and I thank you for it. All my love, Christine
Christine W24.11.2014
@David-yes indeed! What a long strange trip it's been!! Love it! I spent my high school years and one or two of college seeing the Dead. Great to hear about your time with them! Thanks again for all you bring to EkhartYoga....you are the bomb!!
Christine W23.11.2014
Dearest David, My practice of late has been more a study of energy lines, the chakras, and connecting to the earth. I waited for my day where I was ready to address my power and strength again and take this class. It was worth the wait. I like Ashtanga, but sometimes by the end I am done taking direction. I stayed engaged and so thoroughly enjoyed every minute. There is a lot for me to work toward in this class, but as you said I am already there. PS I was intrigued by the SF,CA connection, but when you mentioned that the Grateful Dead practiced with your past teacher and Bob Weir named it "The Rocket"-it made my day! As a younger person, I followed The Dead around when they came to the NYC, New Jersey, & Connecticut area from I would say 1978 to 1982 '83 ish. I hung out with Bob, Jerry, Micky, and Phil after one of their shows. Extremely fond memories. The band and music taught me a lot and helped form who I am today. So thanks for that blast..... All my love, Christine
Alessia05.06.2015
Wonderful class! This is a straight way to happiness :)) Thank you all
David02.07.2015
The Rocket... gets you there :)
Frosina24.11.2014
Wow, I really admire the Grateful Dead now that I know that they were able to do this practice! I started falling apart at about half of it but pulled myself together somehow, it was a shaky but fun voyage, thank you for the ride!:)
AnnK06.11.2015
I was doing a lot of gentle classes recently and found this to be quite a progress not having to sweat in order to feel myself. Trying this class took some courage and it is really nice to have a strong physical challenge from time to time. I felt this was empowering and energising. Thank you very much!
Nichi11.11.2014
Thanks David I really enjoyed this
Aoife12.11.2014
Well done Sandra and Rose! It's really difficult :)
Katie12.09.2015
What a hoot! Awesome, challenging, laughing transitions. Loved it!
Judit13.01.2016
A year on I took the courage to do this class again. I still think this rocket is full of aliens/super humans :)) but I was pleased that I could keep up now even if I had to just watch some of the arm balances.
Klara08.02.2015
Now that was a fun class! I really enjoyed the Rocket humor, the challenge and the length! Face of the girls when you were showing some exercises was priceless :)))). Well done all!
David08.02.2015
hehehe... I'll have to watch it again to see their faces!
Julie18.11.2014
No pain, but a broken heart ;) I'm still a long long way from achieving the poses in that class. Thanks for the challenge David !
Matthew08.11.2014
Thank you David, this hit home and took me to the heart space. Namaste.
Noreen08.11.2014
I loved this! Thank you for sharing!
Laura11.11.2014
Beautiful class, loved every minute of it. Thank you so much.
22.09.2020
I’m not sure where the Rocket got me, but I got somewhere new, my finger tips were pulsating while on prayer pose at the end and I feel less “scared” of Ashtanga thanks to you and Larry. 🙏🏼
David23.09.2020
It is my day for answering comments... so it is nice to see you with a different class... and the rocket! YES! Pulsing fingertips and less fear = great success!
Cosima18.05.2015
thank you David! I saw some more advanced poses for the first time and now I am curious what else you can do. I will definitively try Ashtanga after this class. Challenging for the body, but very light in the heart!
David19.05.2015
Ho Cosima, I am also curious what else I can do! I will be filming new classes next week and try some new things :)
Ilse19.04.2015
Crazy, but fun!
David23.11.2014
@ Christine... what a great testimonial. What A Long Strange Trip It's Been :) No?!?! I was on summer tour a few times in the South, I'm from Asheville, NC originally and would do the southern shows during my high school years :) Happy to know the class is bringing it all back.
David09.11.2014
@ Carlos > Anything that avoids PAIN is encouraged. When you need to modify a pose to prevent injury, choose safety. And yes, I also often just go for liftoff with this pose too!
David08.11.2014
Great to see a few comments coming for this class. Soon, there will be a BLOG post about the story behind the class! Keep your eyes open for it :)
Cal A Bunga09.11.2014
Nice class guys, I really enjoyed all of it, the funny thing I can do all but the sidecrow pose ha ha ha I always laugh about it, just one question when you were doing the pose were you put your elbows together and lift from your stomach I did a different approach I just went straight to lift off because I coul lift my head up kinda bother me on my neck, so it is ok to lift off like that? Thanks for this sweaty class I had fun!! Namasté
mimi28.01.2015
Hi David! Beautiful class, thank you. Please please could you do a Rocket 3 video soon?? :)
David29.01.2015
Rocket III ... that's a secret :) I'll see what I can do!

Yuliya03.04.2020
That was a blast and a half, nearly rocketed myself out of the window 😅🚀going to do it again x
David03.04.2020
YES! Keep floating and enjoy... (and there is a Rocket II as well!)
Theo02.07.2015
Dear David, After being a bit scared to start (is this suiteble for a 50+ year old body?) I did the rocket 3 time the last weeks. What a blast and so much to learn for me. Thanks a lot for sharing the Rocket on Ekhart! Keep filming! With love, Theo
David02.07.2015
YES, Theo! Well done and keep rocketing :)
Claire26.06.2019
I know this has been up here for a while and I've done Rocket classes before, but I did this one today for the first time and will make it a regular part of my practice. I LOVE it so much, some of the arm balances are rocket science (my arms seem too short to reach the floor) but the pace, the joy and relish of it all is everything. I'm currently enjoying that post-yoga feeling before I won't be able to move a thing later - but thank you David and thank you Larry! xx
David27.06.2019
Super you found a way here to Blast Off!!! Enjoy the class again and again ?
Neny19.10.2024
Incredible rocket sequences for me and still going strong and not boring. Thank you David and Larry. Namaste
David21.10.2024
Yeah, Neny! This is not an easy class... congrats on Blasting with the Rocket 💥💥💥
Wendy31.07.2022
I've done this class many times, and "go call for help!" makes me laugh out loud every single time. :) :) :)
David03.08.2022
Yeah, Wendy! Great to know that repeat actions and jokes can still be funny ... even when you know what is coming! Keep Rocketing 🚀
Wendy10.10.2018
Have practiced this class many times, absolutely love it, though I'm far from able to do all the postures. But David, the best part is, every single time I come to the part where you say, "Go call for help!" I get a big belly laugh out of it. Thanks for the class and the laughs.
David12.10.2018
Great, Wendy...a 'repeat offender' of the Rocket! Congratulations and ... has help ever come?!?! ???
Louisa23.09.2016
Hi David! I would love to see a few more rocket style classes, I just find them so challenging and fun, plus I really enjoy your laid back style! Many thanks!
David24.09.2016
Hi Louisa, There is a Rocket II Series. I will record it next time I am in the Ekhart Studio. And I have some other stronger classes too. Have you tried Vinyasa Blast Off? Or Blast Off Two, Electric Buglaoo?!?
Louisa20.08.2016
Love this class, thank you!
Lucinda13.08.2017
I found this a real challenge but I feel great for making it all the way through!!

Madre mía madre mía! Some Brazilian heat was brought up here! Thanks for the class David, I admit I had to laugh about myself a couple of times trying certain poses, but I loved the fast pace and flexibility/strength combination :) Namaste

today was a good day for a rocket practice, liked it very much and ended it with a maditation "the Ocean in a drop": nice
Valentina01.04.2020
I did this class last week and... was half dead, it was too short after coming from Brasil, my jet lag made me suffer through the class , but after repeating it on Sunday I was very happy:-) it was like to jet
Virginie28.03.2020
Hey ! It reminded me of our 'beautiful' sunday mornings ! Helped me a lot to get back to basics and train my body as as it needed :) Thanks David. I think I need to do it several times to achieve all the asanas one day lol Enjoy people :)
David28.03.2020
🚀... sounds great. So see you tomorrow for the repeat 😇
Katrin04.04.2020

A week later than intended, less warmth around but still quite some heat inside! I loved trying all the 'exotic' hand balances :) Yes David, 'trying'; you couldn't really call it 'doing' - yet!
David30.03.2020
🚀ROCK IT IRIS!!! 🚀
