Hi, Mr. Mohan Unfortunately, this interview was very short. You said something of importance, I think, when you repeated several times that in the earlier days, yoga was taught with the student in mind. Had anybody asked you to develop that statement, the interview would have taken us to very interesting topics for discussion. Thanks for your contribution! Kind regards, Nicola
Nicola29.10.2015
Hi, Anneke Thanks for your response. I am guessing that AG Mohan was referring to the fact that back in Krishmamachuria's day, being a yoga teacher was not a business, so the teacher had no ulterior motive (financial incentive) for teaching yoga. Nobody paid to learn these teachings back then, as it was a spiritual path. Apparently, even Bikram, who went to the US in the 1970's, didn't ask for payment initially. We can thank the actress Shirley McClean for encouraging him to make a business out of yoga! Nowadays, although yoga is accessible to millions of people, it is also a billion dollar a year industry that attracts people who's priority is business, not the students (Bikram is only one example). So as students, we have to be attentive and careful to choose teachers who are authentic. And since authenticity can be mimicked, it is difficult to find a true teacher of yoga. I find this site to be wonderful because although it is a business, the spirit of yoga is strong, and I am sure is a priority. Cheers!

Dear Nicola, Yes, what a wonderful reminder for all of us to keep the student in mind when we are teaching yoga! (I am the person sitting next to Esther in the video)

An insightful distillation of some fundamental principles of yoga, delivered with an enviable economy of words. I enjoyed this talk very much. Thank you, Mohanji.

Totally loved it! Apart from the wise content, the interview makes me look forward to my travels to India even more! (including a visit to Mysore and Chennai) Thank you Mohanji, looking forward to more talks with you.

Hi Esther, Though it was of some interest to listen to AG Mohan, I found him to be arrogant. This turned me off. You were very kind. Love the diversity of what your site has to offer.
Esther29.10.2015
Hi Martha, Sorry to hear you were turned off, but Mohanji certainly wasn't perceived arrogant by me :-) I perceived him and Indraji both to be a very gentle and wise. Happy though that you still thought it was of some interest to listen to him! Thank you so much for being part of this community.

I thought he was interesting and learnt some wise points. Worth remembering and bringing yourself back to; just a reminder of what it's all about for you as an individual and not everyone else around you.

Yoga in the west owes so much to Krishnamacharya. Gratitude to Mr. Mohan for carrying on this valuable tradition.
Katie29.10.2015
The teaching should be for the taught. Brilliant! If every teacher embraced that more people would do yoga.
Sarah29.10.2015
I absolutely did NOT find A.G. Mohan arrogant! What I saw was a learned, humble man, feeling slightly ill at ease in front of the camera .
Nicola29.10.2015
Over the years, I have noticed that many people judge the learned as arrogant. These too hasty interpretations of the mind (illusions) are succinctly illustrated in James Reeves's introduction to his latest video where he explains the mind as perceived by yoga philosophy... That the mind will habitually interpret data based upon previous experience (impressions) , hence never really perceiving reality as it is. I strongly recommend James's videos, and his latest one (balanced body, balanced mind?? -- I'm going by memory) compliments AG Mohan's blog, published yesterday (Oct 28). Cheers!

I certainly agree on this!!

Thank you AG Mohan. Reminds me of the Sivananda school saying: “Health is wealth, peace of mind is happiness, Yoga shows the way.” Thank you for your lovely and surprising appearance here at Ekhart yoga!

Dear Esther and Anneke, Thx for organising this interview :-) This speech has wisdom in few words. Just listen. Mohanji says: - Yoga means lifestyle - Good healthy living is goal HLP represents three most important things in life 1. Health proper practice of the asanas gives you health 2. Longevity proper practice of pranayama gives you longevity 3. Peace and tranquillity in life proper practice of meditation gives you peace and tranquillity You have to do it yourself! Thank you so much, Mohanji :-)

Wonderful to hear this beautiful interview. I loved how clear and honest it is. Yes, we are all so different, and yet all struggling to find better health and happiness, and more peace. A great reminder to hold our own hand and keep going on the journey. Namaste.
Indra and A.G.29.10.2015
Yes, I totally agree. I am glad to hear that you liked it! (I am the person sitting next to Esther and organize events with Mohanji and his wife Indraji when they are in The Netherlands, like the one that is coming up this May -- shortly this will be seen in the workshop area on this site ;-))

Natalie07.11.2015
A truly authentic and thoughtful interview. Thank you for sharing it with all of us. Namaste.
Chantmor25.02.2018
Thank you for for bringing this to us. The shared thoughts also are a part of the teaching here for me, how people interpret things differently. "You have to do it yourself" is an encouraging and consoling idea to me. I wonder if you could find a more supportive chair for AG Mohan? He seemed to me unable to sit comfortably here.
