Do you want to practice functionally and therapeutically? Starting with a short talk, José explains how to practice yoga poses in a functional way, meaning: feeling the purpose of a pose instead of copying a picture of a pose.

As each pose stimulates different areas of your body the idea is to practice it in such a way that you experience the stimulated area while performing it, thereby getting its therapeutic benefits. 


In this Yin session you will stimulate the front of your body, opening up your thighs, hips, belly and chest, while doing various backbends. Backbends are very beneficial for your back, unless a sharp stinging sensation is experienced. (For more on this, watch my talk, SI-joint and lower back explained).

The focus of this class is simple awareness of everything that happens. We start and finish with a meditation and various options for poses are given. You might also like to practice José's accompanying class: Opening up your side body. Props: blanket, pillow, bolster, blocks.

I practice yin regularly and still find new ways of doing it all the time. This is a very interesting and effective class, it is becoming more and more important and useful to me to find my own way of doing things, getting in and out of poses, finding my poses, my yoga. Most importantly I want to be practicing in a safe and nourishing way and learning how is essential. Tips and guidelines is important (to me) when allowing myself to intuitive, even if this might sound like a contradiction in terms. Thanks, José

This was just the perfect class for me today! After practising leg lefts during a Kundalini session the other day my front side felt so stiff and thight that I could barely walk. Never thought that Kundalini would challenge my fitness so much - haha! It's amazing to FEEL how my thighs and hip flexors softened throughout this class and also my breath feels more spacious now. Great practicing! great opening! I feel a lot of joy and relief entering my chest after practicing this morning!!!!! Thank you so much Jose. I could not achieve contacting my chest to the ground at the melting-heart pose. Any suggestions for improving that?

Dear Dimitra, Good to hear. About melting heart, it depends where you feel restriction. Do you feel opening in the chest or compression in the shoulders or back that is stopping you? If you feel opening in the front, it takes time to lower down, if it’s compression you could widen your arms more to see if that helps dropping the chest more. I hope this helps.

Bravo Jose! This is the kind of yoga I want to teach.. I want people to feel into their own yoga and here I find your class which delights me. If you were local to me I'd be joining your classes regularly. There are so many 'forms' of yoga nowadays from restorative to competitive and I have discovered, as I get older, that functional yoga is the best way to introduce people to yoga.. so that early on they can learn about their body and have the confidence to join a regular class and modify in whatever way suits them. I think this also gives rise to people developing a home practice.. which liberates them.. Namaste!
