This wonderful breathing exercise helps increase the breath capacity over time and is a powerful tool for supporting asana practice with deeper breath, and meditation with concentration.  The technique counts the length of the breath, gradually increasing the count of the exhalation before matching the inhale to the longer count.  After repeating the technique twice, David picks up the guitar and invites you to use your new-found technique in singing a mantra:  Aad Guray Nameh / Jugat Guray Nameh / Sad Guray Nameh / Siri Guru Dev Nameh.

Received... and reflected... it is a cycle :-)

What I love most about the mantra singing is the listening and internalizing the first few rounds, and then listening to my inner being find use of my voice to join in the last few rounds. Lovely class! Thank you.
David04.01.2017
WOW! I may quote you on this technique. Thanks for joining in :)

It's always a mini celebration when you post a video. I love mantra singing. It brought back memories of the summer singing mantras for two hours with the Hungarian followers of the Bihar School of Yoga. Incidentally, that is where the quote on your t-shirt from, isn't it? ;) Many thanks for this beatiful song.
David07.10.2016
Awww... now I'm blushing! Should I spoil the secret and let you know that every other Thursday, you will have a mini-celebration?!?! T-shirt comes from Barcelona Yoga Conference and yes, I think they got the words from Bihar.

David! This mix of pranayama and mantra singing hit the sweet spot for me! Thank you SO much for sharing this! I was enjoying the mantra so much that I wished it had kept going when it was over (I can always replay that part of the video though ;) ). I loved singing along although I was mispronouncing some of the words and my body wanted to naturally sway half way through so I embraced the movement. I felt all warm and tingly at the end of this practice. I would LOVE to see more of these pranayama/mantra classes! And just a technical suggestion I wanted to give, it would be great to have the words to the mantra on the video, like subtitles, while we are still learning the words. Again, thank you SO much!
David13.10.2016
Hi Sarah, I will for sure do another Pranayama / Singing class when I go to record again in November! Many will tell you that you must pronounce the words correctly for the correct effect... but I think that God/Divine understands the intention even with an accent :) Nice idea also for the words... I will pass that idea on to the video editing team and see if they're up for it.

Arghhh this tee shirt! Another time this small shop which is closed now? Gael
David06.10.2016
Hey Gael, This shirt comes from the Barcelona Yoga Conference! I'm sure they have some leftovers... it is from the 2015 conference. You can write them and see: http://www.barcelonayogaconference.cat/index.php/en/contact Peace, David

jenny13.10.2016
Oh wow david that was amazing!! I felt anxious during the first half of the pranayama, as some pranayama tends to do to me. I also felt anxious during the second half until you got up to the count of 14 and 15 and then i was smiling so much! Such a happy feeling came over me. And then the beautiful mantra. More of this combination please. Thank you!!
David17.10.2016
Hi Jenny, Keep with Pranayama ... but slow and steady, if it brings you anxiety. But... it is one of the best 'cures' for anxiety! And mantras will "always" be helpful too... More combinations coming!
Dijana Tara03.12.2016

Love, love this beautiful mantra. Brings tears to my eyes. Thank you David for this practice of Pranayama and this wonderful and simply mantra that I chant with you . Bring light & peace to the universe, and waiting for a tremendous hurricane & tropical storm in our way . Many blessed to you Namaste.
Neny07.10.2016
Thank you David!! So joy of touch hearing your full mantra . Very thankful that I were chanting all day yesterday before the tropical storm came & wasn't strong. But I really enjoy your full track mantra. Many light and blessing sending to your way.
David07.10.2016
Happy to hear these positive effects and good luck with the storm! You can listen to the mantra in whole here: https://davidlurey.bandcamp.com/track/aad-guray-nameh
Selin05.12.2016
second time coming back to this. Thank you!
David10.12.2016
great idea... the more you practice this one, the deeper the breath comes and eventually you will have to count on your own since my counts on the videos will be too short. Try and see!
hilde10.10.2016
Nice the long breathing!!!
David10.10.2016
The exhales are missing in a lot of daily - inhaling life! Enjoy them :)
Cara03.06.2018
This was exactly what I needed to help move some trapped grief through. Your practice always helps to soothe me, and this one inspired me to pick up my guitar. Love, hugs, and thanks! <3
