It's a full practice to cool you down through slow movements, some mild backbends and breathing exercises. All of that is perfect for balancing the Ayurvedic Pitta Dosha. Hi Irina, what a wonderful class, really made me feel a little calmer and especially cooler. Also i had to almost cry (coming home kind of cry) in the beginning of the class because i loved it that pigeon came around, haha! I'm always so confused when it comes to doshas...I always think myself as a pitta but an ayurvedic therapist told me i have a vata imbalance (a year and a half ago) . I concentrate on vata routines sometimes like the oiling stuff and more heavy foods but it not always feels good. Lots of times it makes me feel sluggish and tired. Do you think it is oké to also focus a bit on pitta? But it's contrary to vata isn't it? Pitta's do the dry massage and the more cooling foods...hmmmm, confusing...you should do some therapy sessions on ekhart yoga ;-) Anyway, thanks for the practice and looking forward to do more of your classes! Xx

Thank you so much Irina for your comment! I think it's a good idea to mix things up a bit and see where it brings me. I'll defenitely try the coconut oil instead of sesame :-) Thanks for the tip! X

Hi Jutri, Happy to hear you enjoyed the practice! I feel that if you're having a 'coming home' kind of cry in a practice, it's the right one for you - no matter what your dosha is or what theory tells you you should practice. Anyway, a vata imbalance doesn't necessarily mean your dosha is vata. It could be that within the one and a half year, the imbalance already resolved and the need to concentrate on vata dosha is gone as well. If focussing on calming vata dosha makes you feel sluggish and tired, it sounds like a good plan to mix things up a little and start playing around with a combination of kapha (sluggish = too much kapha) and pitta (cooling! especially beneficial on hot summer days - since summer is the pitta time of the year) calming practices. And yes! Therapy sessions would be better! ;-) It's hard to give solid specific advice based on a tiny bit of information... As for the massage: you can opt for an in-between-solution as well: coconut oil is cooling and balances pitta dosha. Hope this helps - even if it's just a tiny bit. :-) xxx

The part where we inhaled/exhaled through child's pose, down dog, and hero pose was a divine moment for me. My breath and mind connected and I felt my body moving like a liquid. Thank you for this practice!

Dear Irina, Thank you so much for the Dosha lessons. I am pitta dominant-and my fire gets the best of me sometimes :) I will come to this class when I need to stoke my fire to help it simmer down. Thank you so very very much. All my love, Christine

Hi there, for some reason I can't view this video or any other video on this site. However, Youtube videos work perfectly. Please help! Charity

Hi Charity Thanks for your message. Unfortunately we've had a technical issue on one of our video servers, and that was the reason you couldn't play the videos. The server is fixed, and all videos are back again. We're very sorry for the inconvenience!

Oh I get irritated and angry easily these days ... I set the intention of breathing into the irritation and anger when they come up, instead of fighting them and berate myself for getting angry. Bless you for the class.
Irina20.04.2015
Beautiful! Yes, so important not to fight anything that comes up. I love that you set the intention of breathing into the irritation and anger. Thanks for sharing that pearl of wisdom!
Katrina26.02.2015
that was wonderful, not sure that I am Pita -dasha but I am competitive with myself and in the menopause, so this was lovely and cooling adding it to my favourites for when I am in Greece for six months!!! Beautiful, calming, grounding and made me feel happy and yawny!!! Lots of love Katrina
Morgan27.04.2015
This was the perfect class for me today. I am very much Pitta and my goal this year is to slow down a bit and smell the flowers. Thank you for a beautiful class.
Noga23.09.2015
Hi Irina, thank you for this class. Would you recommend any other additional videos and or practices for pitta dosha? also, can you use this breathing exercise while doing yoga? thank you!
Irina24.09.2015
Hi Noga! Thanks for your comment & questions! Yes, you can use the breathing exercise during your yoga practice - but I wouldn't use it ALL the time, EVERY time you practice. Everything in moderation, right? ;-) Additional videos that are perfect for pitta dosha are these: http://www.ekhartyoga.com/videos/chill-out-cool-down http://www.ekhartyoga.com/videos/be-kind-a-sweet-and-strong-practice-for-all-women http://www.ekhartyoga.com/videos/re-store-rest-and-find-wholeness http://www.ekhartyoga.com/videos/rest-rejuvenate and http://www.ekhartyoga.com/videos/open-up-with-ease Much love! x
Malin03.03.2015
Hello. I am pita-dasha and this class made me angry. It was very difficult for me too cool down and take it easy. Is it supposed to feel that way Irina? Maby I have too much fire? Dont know.. Too many emotions, felt like crying. I guess I have to practise this one. :)
Irina03.03.2015
Hi Malin! Yep, emotions can come up when you practice anything that in some way confronts you or guides you to let go of patterns we've been holding on to for so long... And sometimes that feels just SO overwhelming. If that's the case for you, allow yourself to feel what comes up, to feel the emotion in your body. Sometimes we can feel it in our stomachs, sometimes in our neck, sometimes somewhere else. Acknowledge the emotion without trying to change it, without trying to push it away. Try to see it as it is, without going into the story ('I feel so angry because I hate this pose - why are we holding it so long? This can't be good for me, there's no way this balances my doshas. This pose stresses me out and I've already been under so much stress lately. My boss is such a jerk. I'm tired. I deserve a glass of wine after this class. Is she still in that pose?! Did the video freeze or what?' - or something like that. ;-)). Have the intention to not hold onto the emotion - if you can let go of the attachment, the emotions will shift. Love - Irina

Irina, I wanted to let you know that this is my "go to" practice, especially in these hot summer months. I think it's my absolute favorite on the whole Ekhart yoga site. Beautiful practice that always makes me feel so much better. It helps make me a better "me" :) Thank you! ~Sara
Irina29.07.2016
Thanks so much, Sara. Glad the practice helps to make you feel better. x Irina
Sara27.02.2015
I had so many "piita moments" this week, so this came at just the right time. I feel as though you tailor made this practice just for me. It was divine, and the cooling effect was amazing. Best I've felt in a long time. Thank you so much Irina. I really appreciate all you share with us.
Melanie01.03.2015

This is the very best class i have ever seen here. Thank you much for taking the time to clearly use, instruct the inhale exhale with the poses and during the change. I can't emphasise enough how good you are. Thank you.
Liesbeth08.03.2015

Sara03.03.2016
i would love to see more (and longer) classes on here based around the different doshas :-)
Allyria25.05.2016
Yes! I would too!
Tess16.06.2021
lovely class, especially the child pose/to down dog, it was challenging relinquishing control of the breath, yet gave me so much space. I was feeling overcome with hay-fever and irritation this morning, this practise helped cool & calm. namaste
