I have really been enjoying your ashtanga series. I am about 5 feet and my stomach gets in the way of many postures. Along with that my arms are short and unable to reach my foot. Do you have any suggestions for modificatins?
09.04.2015
Hi Char- Thanks for your message. Try using a strap or towel around your foot for the poses where you hold your foot or hold hands behind the back. For the forward bends where you are grabbing your foot, wrap a strap or towel around your foot and with your other hand, you can grab your wrist. Feel free to use a prop as a tool to help make the pose accessible and more enjoyable. Blessings - Clayton

Thank you very much for sharing your tips! I have two challenges in these posture and I wondered if you might be able to help. 1. I have flat feet/fallen arches which as you said in the video create instability so I really struggle at times - do you have any suggestions to help with this issue? 2. One of my legs naturally rotates outwards slightly from the hip so that my foot does not point straight forwards. Would you suggest I still position my foot in a straight line when balancing or keep it at the natural angle?
Erika19.01.2016
Thank you :) Much appreciated.
19.01.2016
Hi Erika - 1. Always ground the big toe knukle to strengthen the arch and improve your connection to the earth. 2. Try to do the pose with a straight foot even though it is challenging. Perhaps see an Osteopath or very experienced chiropractor who can help with your excessive external rotation, practice a lot and get some massage for that area. Hope this helps :-) Namaste

Great tips thank you and great to see that we can all have a smile (with you in your wig) even whilst trying to balance in these tricky Ashtanga balances!

A tutorial worth doing again and again. I guess next time I should remember my props (wig). Thanks for the laugh.
