Best yoga mat review

Von YogaEasy

Finding the best yoga mat that's right for you can be as individual a choice as buying a new pair of trainers. Would you like something light and portable? Are you looking for extra cushioning? Do your hands slip easily? Do you need an extra-long mat? Would you like something with guidelines on it to help with alignment? Is buying from a sustainable company important to you? What colour do you prefer...? And so on!

And that's where we come in. We've taken in account all of these questions and tested some of the most popular brands on the market. Here are the results.

Liforme Yoga Mat review

Lifeforme yoga mat
  • Price: $140 / €100 est
  • Material: Natural rubber, eco-friendly Polyurethane. The top layer is absorbent which is great for maintaining your grip.
  • Eco-friendliness: The rubber is sustainable and naturally sourced and they also do not use any toxic adhesives.. which is great. Their packaging is fully recyclable too.
  • Size & style: at 68cm x 185cm / 26,8” x 72.8” this mat is wider and longer than most mats. It has alignment markers etched on the mat which is actually surprisingly very handy! The mat comes in grey and pink.

Best for the serious yogi

We love this mat. The only downsides are that it is very heavy so it’s not a mat that you will carry around with you.. and it’s not cheap! But if you are serious about your yoga.. this is a great investment.
It has great grip - like Lululemon's “The Mat” without the overpowering smell but some have noted it loses grip after time (top tip: clean with a smidgen of washing up liquid in cold water and let it dry naturally indoors.) This mat is very body friendly as it uses body safe products to make the mat and it’s firm yet cushioning. Also you can experiment with the alignment (guide)lines on it to see if your body tends to be a bit off centre.

Jade Travel Mat ⅛ inch review

jade travel yoga mat review
  • Price - $54,95 / €59,95
  • Material - Natural rubber, there’s a bit of a rubbery smell but not too strong and not unpleasant.
  • Eco-friendliness: Jade mats are super friendly to our ecosystem. Their mats are made from natural rubber. They are made in the US and they plant a tree for every mat they sell! Thumbs up from us!
  • Size & style: The mat is available in two lengths (68/74”) and in 5 different colours with a straightforward design.

Most eco-friendly

The Jade Travel Mat is great for people who tend to have sweaty hands and feet as it has great immediate grip. It’s very eco-friendly too. However weighing 1.6kg, this mat is not light (because it is natural rubber) and not really thin so we wouldn’t use it as a travel mat.  But compared to their other mats it’s a lot lighter.

What our members say: “Jade Yoga, grip from the first minute! The smell, well you get used to it, was at the beginning strong (rubber), and my sensitive skin feels like the surface is a bit rough. Could turn in to my favourite maybe in time.”

Lululemon The Mat review

  • Thickness: 5mm/.19” - This mat is thick but comfortable without feeling unstable. This mat is great for those who like an extra bit of padding for their knees while still maintaining a solid connection to the ground.
  • Stickiness & texture: This mat has a very smooth texture and the grip/anti-slip is fabulous. The mat is a little ‘plasticky' so it does feel a little a little like lying on lino :)
  • Price: $68/€78
  • Material: It’s made from polyurethane, rubber and latex. If you are in any way sensitive to latex then we don’t recommend this mat. It has a very overpowering smell that's not very pleasant. They say it will go and recommend airing it first. The smell is certainly dying down a little bit, but we have had a few complaints here in the Studio...
  • Eco-friendliness - Not ranking high in this area. The chemical smell from this mat is not encouraging. Their eco policies are unclear so would love to be enlightened?
  • Size and style: 71" x 26" (180cm x 66cm) and available in a variety of colours. Simple, sleek and cool.

Great for anti-slip:

If you can get over the overpowering smell, and you tend to sweat a lot this is a great mat! Not for travel, but their travel mat is the top layer of this one, so without having tried it, that could be good too!

What our members say: "No slip whatsoever, reversible and nice colours. Would never go back to another mat now."

Aurorae Classic Mat review

Aurorae classic yoga mat
  • Thickness: - ¼ inch / 6.35 mm. This mat is lusciously thick without feeling unstable.
  • Stickiness & texture - We have a mixed jury out on this one. For those of us who do not sweat the grip seemed fine. But if you do sweat, this mat is not for a dynamic practice as you slip easily. They also have an anti-slip towel to place over this mat.. but we have not tried it. It is our favourite for Yin yoga as it supportive yet soft. ‘Yummy’ is the word!
  • Price: €54.95
  • Material: made from specially designed memory foam. The mat is free from Phthalates, Latex and Silicone so it’s quite hypoallergenic.
  • Eco-friendliness: The classic mat is biodegradable and made from eco-safe PER.
  • Size & style: at 72" x 24" this is a good sized mat - making it also suitable for the taller and wider. It available in a wide variety of colours too.

Best for Yin Yoga

This mat is our favourite for slower and softer practices like Yin Yoga. It's so comfortable and supportive. However, if you tend to have sweaty hands and feet or you have a very active practice this mat is probably not suitable for you. If you like to have more than one mat for your home practice this is definitely a good addition.

Manduka Pro Review

Manduka Pro yoga mat
  • Thickness: 6mm/ ¼”. This mat has a nice thickness and it feels really stable.
  • Stickiness & texture: The mat has no slipping and the texture is little rough - a fabric-like surface.
  • Price: $100 / €85
  • Material: PVC but latex free!
  • Eco-friendliness: Even though these mats are made with PVC, Manduka say that it is made in a process where no toxic emissions are released.
  • Size & style: available in two different sizes (180cm/210cm). Nice simple design. No fuss.. just a good mat.

Members' favourite!

You can see why this is their best seller and such a popular mat. No slip, stable, no overpowering smell and comfortable. The only downside with this one is that it is very heavy. Also, we have used these mats a lot here at YogaEasy and Esther has noticed that with extended use they tend to unravel at the edges.

What our members say: "I love my Manduka Pro.  Long, lean, stays clean.  Grips, no trips & the aquamarine colour I chose lights up my soul."

Lululemon The Pure Mat 3mm review

Lululemon The Mat yoga mat
  • Thickness: 3mm or ⅛ inch. This mat is solid and thin. It does not offer extra cushioning, so for many of us, you’ll need something else under your knees in a low lunge for example.
  • Stickiness & texture: Great grip from the get-go - almost too good! It’s important not to let this mat do all the work for you :)  It has a roughish texture which is a little abrasive.
  • Price: $48.00 / €55.00
  • Material: Made from natural rubber and latex and it has an antimicrobial additive. There is a strong smell of rubber but it’s not too unpleasant.
  • Eco-Friendliness: Lululemon's standpoint on eco-friendliness is unclear but the mat is made out of natural rubber.
  • Size & style: 26" x 71" (66cm x 180cm)

Best for overall performance

Overall we like this mat. It does exactly what it says it does. This mat is a great general mat. It says it’s good for Hatha, Yin and Restorative Yoga but we think that for Restorative, some might prefer a thicker mat.

What our members say: "I don't slip around AT ALL - The only trouble is, because of the texture it's tough to keep clean (it attracts dust and your hands and feet leave 'swoosh' marks)"

Sankalpa mat review

Sankalpa yoga mat
  • Thickness: 5 mm. Sankalpa mats have a good thickness and feel stable.
  • Stickiness and texture: This mat performs like a mat and towel in one. Natural rubber base ensures your mat will never slip and the microfiber surface feels luxuriously soft to touch and grips great with pressure. Traction also increases with sweat and moisture.
  • Price: $98 / €86
  • Material: 100% natural rubber base with a microfiber top layer
  • Eco-friendliness: 100% sustainable, recyclable and renewable rubber base. Absolutely NO PVC.
  • Size & style: Indie artist designed yoga mats with hundreds of designs. A different artist creates each design and every purchase directly supports the artist who created the design. Available in 2 sizes: 24”x72” (61cm x 183cm) and 28” x 84” (71cm x 213cm)

Our vote: We love the beautiful, unique designs and the ethos behind the company.  We found the soft mat surface a little slippery for Vinyasa yoga but great for Yin Yoga, Hot yoga, Ashtanga Yoga and meditation.

OHMat review

OhMat yoga mat
  • Thickness: 3.5mm and firm - great if you prefer something more stable.
  • Stickiness & texture: The mat has a microfiber top layer which feels like suede. This mat and the Yoga Design Lab mat work best when wet, so they're especially good if you have sweaty hands or go to hot yoga or Bikram Yoga. If you have dry hands spray a little water on the mat first to make it grippy.
  • Price: €84.00
  • Material: 100% natural rubber and microfibre top layer
  • Eco-Friendliness: 100% natural rubber, organic, biodegradable, Free from latex, silicone, toxic glue. The inks for the print are also water-based.
  • Size & style: weight 1.8kilo, 172 cm x 61 cm (67 inch x 24 inch) 3.5mm thick. Mix of hand-drawn designs

Our vote: We love how the designs are hand drawn by Debbie from OHMat herself. The mats are eco-friendly - plus they’re washing machine proof (without soap). The top layer feels like suede so you have the stability of a rubber mat without it feeling cold.

Yogasana mat review

Yogasana yoga mat
  • Thickness: 5mm - 6mm thick - good for travelling as you can fold it up
  • Stickiness & texture: This reversible cotton mat looks beautiful and feels great but isn’t sticky. The natural weave is initially firm but the cotton will soften over time. Indian yogis have commented that the texture offers a natural acupressure effect on the hands and feet.
  • Price: $95
  • Material: 100% cotton, hand woven
  • Eco-Friendliness: Touted as the “world’s most eco-friendly yoga mat”. Mats are made from 100% natural cotton, woven by hand in Northern India. The cotton from local farmers is dyed using a natural process. The residual dye water is treated and used to irrigate adjacent vegetable fields and fruit orchards. It takes 10 days to make each mat and no electrical power is used.
  • Size & style: weight: 1.8kg, size: 188 cm x 61 cm (74 inches x 24 inches).

Best for the natural look!

Our vote: This lovely mat feels and smells very natural and its eco-friendly credentials are second to none. The texture may be a bit rough for bare skin/knees but we didn’t find this a problem. This mat becomes more grippy with wet hands, so if you don’t have sweaty hands you have to work harder during some poses not to slip, which challenges your stability and core. For this reason, it might not be ideal for beginners. This is Esther Ekhart’s personal favourite mat to travel with - “it’s portable, lovely to look at and nice to have permanently unrolled in my hotel room”.

Just like Perle, after reading the recommendation of the Liforme mat, I ordered it. And it really is pretty great. I am so very happy with it!

Having tried 3-4 really cheap mats, thinking a mat is a mat, was a rather expensive experience. You making a consumer test like this is a great help! A good mat makes all the difference! Have been using a Jade mat for about 18 months now, perfect with the exeption of being somewhat small for my liking, and I'm not a very tall person, 165 cm, luckily my feet reach all the way the down... Perhaps Jade comes in different sizes, I wouldn't know, as my son ordered it for me saying: you use the d...n thing every day, the cost does not matter! (smart son) Got a Liforme a couple of months back, love it! Great grip, great size, markings are useful too, even if I adapt to my body. They are both a bit heavy yes, but i don't move them around. These are both pricy mats, but worth every penny. Still, the cost of one mat is no more than the prize of 2-3 months at a gym....

Excellent topic. I have an extra long Jade Harmony mat (3/16 inch ~ 4.5mm thick) that I've loved and used for years, but I like reading others' thoughts on the alternatives. I'm also interested in cleaning techniques. (I wonder if teatree oil might dissuade my cats from sneaking a quick claw?)

A great idea, this mat review! Thanks to all at Ekhart Yoga. I recommend this site:http://www.yogamatters.com/product/1274/eco-yoga-mats.htm as Yogamatters (a UK firm) offer a good account of all mats according to criteria such as eco-friendly or not, how vigorous a practice it suits, weight and so on. They also offer wholesale prices for batch-buying, which even a group of friends could use to bring their costs down, and discounts for yoga teachers. Not just mats but everything-yoga (check out the Feet-Up gadget if you or your students are a bit scared of inversions! Magic!) Thanks, Esther & team.

Hi there, I also ordered a Liforme mat recently and it´s good in many ways. However the grip is not as good as I thought it would be. Doing the downdog my hands slowly but surely slip forward on the mat (I do not use any lotions on my hands). Is there anybody else who´s got the same problem?
Jenny21.07.2015
Hi Alice - Thanks for your comment, we had the opposite effect here but it is good to hear from more people about what you think of the mats. One thing which could help in Down Dog is to work on Hasta Bandha - we talked about it in point 2 of this article and there's a link to a free video from Esther as well http://www.ekhartyoga.com/blog/yoga-therapy-for-your-wrists - you might be doing this already of course! If so you could contact the company as maybe they can offer more advice?
Renee25.09.2014
Thank you for a great review! I loveeee my Jade mat! Finally treated myself last winter; it is holding up great. Next time, I may go for a darker color as Safron ( a gold hue) does get a bit dirty—but I dont mind it as much as I expected. The thickness is such a treat, and of course I love that they plant a tree with each sale :)
renske31.07.2015
Thank you for this review! I am looking for a new mat so this is just what I need. The problem with my old (very cheap) mat is it has very poor grip on our wooden floor, so it tends to slip when I move. Do any of the mats in the review have this problem and could you maybe mention this in the review?
Jenny07.09.2015
Hi Renske - good point. All the mats were tested on our wooden studio floor and were all ok maybe with the exception of the Gaiam Filigree.
Federica11.08.2015
Great Reviews! What about the Manduka Pro-lite mat? I have read very good reviews. Any experiences?
Esther11.08.2015
Once its worked in, pretty good. But not straight away, you will practice on a slippery mat for a while to get it non slip! Thats something you need to be prepared for..
Laura07.01.2015
Hi Esther and the other teachers, Just a quick thank you for your wonderful website. Difficulties with anxiety and depression led me to yoga but for financial and logistical reasons it wasn’t until I discovered your website that I was able to maintain a regular practice. A year later, of course these difficulties still visit me, however now I see them coming and can almost welcome them which often makes them dissolve away. I am about to have a milestone (and scary!) birthday so as a present to myself I have ordered the Liforme mat. With this and my Ekhart Yoga subscription I hope to enter my next decade cultivating my new found peace and happiness. Thank you all so much, Laura
Esther09.01.2015
Dear Laura, That is wonderful to hear. Thank you for sharing and letting us know and I wish you a very happy birthday, and enjoy the liforme mat. I love it! love Esther
Shobana24.09.2014
I've been following Ekhart Yoga for 1 year.. they have helped it in such an amazing transformation. I look forward to getting on to my Yoga mat daily. It's a personal time with myself. I love it when Esther says.."just let it go" When I started - I got a Gaiam. Completely agree, wiping the top with vinegar/water helps improve the grip. Love my mat. Plus it's very light, hence I can pack it with me on my holidays/travels to keep my Yoga practise going. Thanks again, Esther and team for a lovely review. You guys are amazing!
Klara22.11.2015
Hi there, great reviews, thanks for that! I have a question re OHMats - how is the cushioning for the knees? I don't want a very thick mat but my knees are sometimes sensitive on hard floors. Thanks in advance!
Esther26.11.2015
Hi Klara, For my knees they are fine, but possibly you still need some extra padding (a folded blanket) under the knees on all fours, since the mat is not that thick. Sorry hard to say! Warmest regards, esther
Julie07.05.2015
I use Manduka Pro at my yoga studio, but my hands get very slippery, I never thought I'd find a mat with a good enough grip... But I did : Manduka eKO Lite ! I don't need to use a towel anymore, I've found my soul mat ^_^ it has the PERFECT grip !!! I love it so much, and the colour I chose is awesome (bright orange). I will probably try the eKO SuperLite for travel. I simply spray my mat with 50/50 water/vinegar to clean it after a session and dry it with a towel. Thank you for your thoughtful articles. We love all the great work you all do and the passion you put into it.
Estelle25.09.2014
I have a Jade mat, Harmony. And I love it! Perfect my slippery hands and it's thick and long.
Keera06.10.2014
Julie, Tea tree oil may work as a deterrent as long as your cats don't like the smell. If they aren't bothered by it and get it on their paws and lick it off, it can be -very- toxic for them. I usually just keep my orange peels and spritz things by squeezing the skin, works well for anything I don't want my cats near. They hate it. It depends on your cats, though. Some hate citrus, some don't mind. There are quite a few options out there for keeping cats away from things/preventing scratching. Tea tree oil just always seems too much of a risk to have on my mat, then on my hands, then on my cats after touching them.

Thank you for the warning, Keera. I had no idea. I ended up using a pet-safe bitter apple spray.
Isabel24.09.2014
The EkhartYoga team never fails to amaze me! Literally EVERY topic, thought, difficulty, victory, etc. I experience in my practice is addressed by your site. Weak wrists? You have articles and videos. I'm looking for a new mat to reward my September Yoga month participation? You have a blog post. I'm looking to deepen my spiritual practice- you have oodles of resources. I want to practice yoga according to the moon phase? Check. Videos for that too. Thank you for being such a support for this novice yogini. I do believe it's changing my life! Well wishes to you and your team, Isabel ps. I'm going to go with the Jade ;)
Oceane25.09.2014
What can I say more than Isabel ? I SO agree with her, you guys are amazing !! There is not a day without me checking out your website, practicing one of your classes, meditating, ... It's been a year now that I started my yoga and meditation practices, and you have been so important in my progress !! You gave me so much, and continue to do so. Thank you so much !!! PS : In Canada we have the brand "Lole", their "I glow" mat is great !! Thick but stable, pretty good grip (when it has trouble to grip, I have to readjust my pose and be stronger, and it solves the problem), reversible (sunny yellow and smooth grey), and easy to wash (I take my shower with it, wash it with a sponge and water, funny but perfect !). Great for every style of yoga ! Hope this helped my canadian fellows. Namaste <3
Kitty25.09.2014
Thank you-a serious, thoughtful review that is good to keep in mind!
Ilse13.05.2015
This is great! Unfortunately most of these mats are not available in my country. Most mats available here are very slippery and I usually just turn them over to the backside and then they no longer slip. I use a Nike mat, thinish, a little too short, but lightweight for travelling. I will investigate the Liforme and manduka options to see if I can find one, perhaps online.
Devra27.09.2014
Love this review, thanks. I have a Yoga Studio in Nth Queensland, Australia and have a problem cleaning our orange mats. We use a mixture of teatree oil and water right now, but the dirty marks on the mats mean we are having to replace them regularly. Can anyone suggest some cleaning techniques please?
Christiane02.10.2014
@Julie: I used a mixture with teatree oil to spray down my old PVC mat after each scrub down. I was following this recipe: 1 cup water ¼ cup witch hazel or vinegar 10 drops tea tree oil 15 drops lavender organic essential oil 5 drops eucalyptus organic essential oil It worked great, and the oils (especially the tea tree oil) helped make the mat mor sticky. I have no cats, so I am not sure how they'd react ;) I haven't used it on my Manduka latex mat yet though, because the instructions said to not get any oil on. So I just "wrestle" with it in the shower and scrub it down with some shampoo. A lot of people from my studio wash their mats in the machine, on the "delicates" cycle without any detergent, and they seem to be satisfied with the result (except for one girl that accidentially put in detergent, and who's Jade mat is now not sticky anymore at all - neither on the bottom, nor on the top). Manduka also has a special cleaning spray, and even though I have never used it, I feel like it is too expensive for whatever benefit it could possibly bring.
Perle08.11.2014
I ordered the LiForMe mat after reading this review and it is AWESOME. It is pricey but it's worth every penny. It really helped with my alignment, now I never get sore knees ever. The grip is fantastic, my down dog really got better. Thank you Ekhart Yoga, you're the best! Namaste.
Laidi11.04.2017
Hi, I'm a Swedish Ekhart Yoga member that does yoga most weekdays. I've been looking for a while for a new yoga mat to complement my thin Manduka travel mat, which is lovely and good for travelling but too thin for my daily practice. I have fibromyalgia and back problems, so I need a thick, soft mat for support to place over the thin mat. And I would like it to be organic and as environmentally and humanly friendly as possible. My problem is that I find the smell of natural rubber hard to stand and it makes my nose itch, and my mat still smells strongly to me after more than a year of use. Ideally I'd like a cotton mat, but they are hard to find. So I searched here on the site, and was happy to see the Yogasana mats! The uniform, lively colours made me especially happy, since the only cotton mats I've found sold in Sweden are beige or stripy or with a pattern, which is either too dull or too distracting for me. So now I wonder how you get a hold of your mats from them? The shipping either to Sweden or the Netherlands (where I have family) is a full third of the price of the mat. Is there a store in the Netherlands that sells them, or do you import them somehow? Or do you have any advice on any other cotton mats I can find in the Netherlands or online? Thank you for running a great site and service, because of Ekhart Yoga I live a better life with much less pain and stiffness than before I joined. Best regards, Laidi
Laidi13.04.2017
Thank you Kirsty! /Laidi
Kirsty13.04.2017
Hi Laida, Thanks for your message and positive words about EkhartYoga - it's very much appreciated. I've done a good search online and also asked my colleagues if they know of a shop in the Netherlands where you could purchase this mat from but I'm afraid I've had no luck :( I would suggest contacting the company directly and asking if they can point you in the right direction: https://yogasanamats.com/contact-us/ Good luck and warm wishes. Kirsty

Olav says he uses a mixture of vinegar and water ... 50/50 I think it is.. He says it works wonderfully for wiping down your mat..
Rhonna06.02.2015
I was wondering if you have a recommendation for the proper size a mat should be in relation to a person's body. I am quite tall (for a woman) and I feel that most mats are too small. There are longer options of course, but they seem huge. But maybe it doesn't really matter. Any advice? Thank you!
Rhonna30.03.2015
Hi Jenny, I guess I was looking for a RULE, like "your mat should be as long as your body" or something like that. But I guess you are right: if it works, it works. Thanks for your advice!
Jenny11.02.2015
Hi Rhonna, I think it's really personal depending on what you are putting your mat on (comfy/clean or not) and whether you have to worry about the weight of it when travelling. See if you can fit comfortably on the mat in Extended Side Angle Pose and Plank Pose. There are other "longer" poses too like Savasana or Locust but maybe it's ok for your feet to be off the end of the mat in these poses? It depends where you practice I guess. On a shorter mat you may also find yourself shifting up and down it when moving between poses. Sorry not a very definitive answer!
Char02.08.2015
I think I saw Esther use a map that had lines on it for alignment. If so, can you tell me how it worked for you and what brand it is? I have the Manduka in my bedroom so I can practice any time. I love it.
Esther04.08.2015
Hi Char, It is the life form yoga mat!
Jamie13.05.2015
Great reviews... And agree as I have both the manduka pro and the lululemon mats. Spot on in the reviews!
Rachael27.07.2015
I have a Jade Harmony mat & I love it. I'm thinking of getting a thicker mat for Yin classes though. These reviews are super helpful. Thanks!
Sarah01.01.2016
Hi, Could anyone recommend a good mat for using on carpet? My mat is quite floppy which is fine for using at classes on a wooden floor but at home it wrinkles up when I use it on the carpet. I guess I'm looking for one that's stiffer and holds its own shape, and will grip to the carpet. Thanks
Myrthe21.07.2016
Try Gaiam's travel mat.. it's great for on carpet!
Siri27.07.2015
Great review! I have the Manduka Pro mat, and love the support and feel of the mat. However, I do find it rather slippy. I've only been using it for a week, so it might be better after more use. Or when I get better in my practice. Tips on how to make a mat more grippy is most welcome :)
Ali05.09.2015
I am torn between the Liforme mat and the Mandka Pro mat. I had read a ton of reviews saying the first few months with a Manduka you slip a lot and that you have to do a salt scrub. And I don't think you should have to do that if your spending that kind of money. And then people still say they need to practice with a towel to keep from slipping. But I think the Liforme is thinner than the Makduka and i'm having troubles with my knees. If Liforme worth the extra money?
Jenny07.09.2015
Hi Ali - it's also good to look at the materials because a thicker rubber mat might not be softer than a thinner foam mat. The Aurorae mat was very comfy on the knees! I personally use the Manduka ecolite which has great grip straight away - but I put a blanket over it if I'm doing Yin or Floor Hatha.
gretchen08.07.2017
Thanks for this! I recently bought a new Lululemon 5mm mat as the first one (after five years of about four times a week use) started fraying around the edges and had gotten slippery at the front and back of the mat (think downward facing dog with not much grip). I liked/loved it enough to buy the same style (different color), glad to see I made the best for me choice.
tamara28.02.2019
Hi there, I'm about to buy myself a yoga mat and must admit that while I'm reading all these reviews - not just here on this page- it is even harder for me to make a choice. Even though some mats are more expensive than others, it seems to me that the price does not guaranty the quality - odors, pre-treatments, ease of care etc. Therefore I'm looking for affordable or let's say it dissent price yoga mat that coincides as well with dissent kind of qualities as well. I'm mostly doing yoga at home, several times per week (vinyasa, hatha and yin), and I even use the mat for high intensity interval exercises. When it comes down to sweat I'm not a heavy category sweater. Until now I seized down my search on Manduka - Eko/Prolite and Lululemon although I'm looking for new yoga mat brands and I stumble on the two following brands Lotuscraft and Yogi Bare. I would really appreciate if you could give me any kind of advice/hint regarding my needs and the first choice that I made with Manduka and Lululemon yoga mats. Any comments would be welcomed as well for Lotuscraft and Yogi Bare, of course, if you have any kind of experience with them. Looking forward to hear from you. Warm regards, Tamara.

Hi Kirsty, thank you very much. On the ends I did decide for Manduka and put the pre-treatment procedure or sliding off comments aside due to rational reflection. There is as well "break in process" with equipment in other sports, for example like in diving - especially with wet suit. So this "break in process" is therefore not something unusual. Well, I received the mat few days ago and I'm very satisfied with the decision I made, especially since I have never had an insight/experience on any of the well known yoga mat brands. So for me all this decision making felt like I was tapping a little bit in a dark. I would just like to point out one more thing that is not of a "technical matter" regarding this mat and this is that it was made in Europe, Germany, and is was not shipped over from another continent to meet my needs, which is so common these days. For the end let me just add that your article was of great help, it is down to earth. Thank you.

Hi Tamara, Manduka and Lululemon are both solid choices. Perhaps, since you're also doing regular-high-intensity exercise on your mat, Manduka may have the edge since it's a little thicker (and very hard-wearing). I'm afraid we haven't tested either the Lotuscraft or Yogi Bare mats. Best wishes, Kirsty

Hi Tamara, thank you for your kind words and glad to know you're happy with your purchase. Sounds like it was also a healthy choice for the environment too! It's a very good point to make, thank you. Warm wishes, Kirsty x
